Message "Incompatible display driver" on install or device connection
After installing DisplayLink software or connecting a DisplayLink device on Windows 7, an error message is seen:

This message will appear if there are no graphics drivers installed for your primary graphics card (eg Intel, AMD, NVIDIA or VIA graphics card).
This error will also be seen if the installed graphics drivers are not WDDM compatible eg designed for the Windows 7 graphics architecture.
The following GPUs are also not supported and will result in this message being seen. There is no support from DisplayLink for these GPUs:
- NVIDIA 7600
- NVIDIA 7900
Download and install the latest Windows 7 drivers for your primary graphics card. A good guide on how to do this is on wikihow. This is for Windows 7, but the method is the same for later Windows operating systems too.
Intel do NOT provide WDDM drivers for Intel 915 graphics. DisplayLink will not work with 915 graphics and Windows 7 and this message will be seen after install. The solution is to upgrade the primary graphics card in the PC to continue to use DisplayLink.
