As soon as I connect my single 1080p display to my M1 Mac the whole system starts to lag, the mouse, the animations and the funny thing is that this is not only on the extended display but on both. Plus one thing that I noticed is that if I shut the lid of my mac and only use the external display the system is smooth again. I think an M1 Air should at minimum handle a 4k extended display.
Note: I have tried the Alpha build for the manager and it's still awful.6 votes

USB-C to USB-C adapter that adds video signal on the USB-C cable. Optionally it would be nice to add a USB-PD charging port on the adapter. Making all USB-C devices more equal.
This is an frustrating issue with flex offices and BYOD. We can fix it by using USB-C displays or docks, but not all devices have display output on USB-C. A solution like this would basically fix every laptop to become compatible with any USB-C display/hub/dock.3 votes
This is what DisplayLink technology allows you to do: adding display over USB-C or USB-A without needing the machine to have native DisplayPort output over USB-C.
USB-PD requires dedicated circuitry on the laptop and in the dock/adapter, which isn’t possible to retrofit. However, vendors like Targus have a solution where the dock can provide power over USB-C or proprietary laptop connector.

Provide a driver and installation that cleanly installs the DisplayLink driver for release 20.04 LTS.
I have an entire department of engineers ready to migrate to 20.04 LTS.
Please also be more thorough in documenting the dependencies of the install script.64 votes
5.3 driver for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS available for download from: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/ubuntu. Installation article updated accordingly.
The macOS App driver does not allow me to operate on external monitors with the laptop closed. I had to uninstall the driver and reinstall the one from November to be able to work in clamshell mode. This is glitchy in the old driver, often freezing my computer. I was hoping to see this stabilize so I wouldn't have to restart so often (almost every time I disconnect my laptop from the docking station).1,069 votes
macOS 12 Monterey is now released and addresses the clamshell / lid closed use case on Intel macbook computers.
In 2016, you presented the DL-6950 Chip.
In 2019, you present DL-6910.
Is the new Chip less powerful?
Thanks a lot, kind regards,
DL-6xxx series numbering was kept in line with previous generation numbering to ease understanding. DL-6910 is a chip set (see DL-5910). Number is not a measure of performance.
There should be a driver where you have an option to rotate the screen for use on both sides. The Display monitor can only go on one side for Mac and it sucks because you should be able to use rotation for how you want your screen to be.45 votes
Rotation on macOS 10.15 Catalina is available via the classic driver available in the download section, in Legacy Releases.
DisplayLink Manager app v1.1+ offers rotation on macOS 11 Big Sur onwards.

Now power delivery is working unstable.
I have a dell d6000 dock. After update to Catalina and upgrade to latest displaylink driver my macbook can suddenly stop having power delivery from dock.
Please enable power delivery, or disable it. I want stable environment.1 vote
The power delivery part of the dock is not part of the DisplayLink driver, but there is a firmware update (version A03) available for the dock from Dell which has fixed this for users that have contacted us with a similar issue:
