macOS App: Clamshell / Lid Closed Mode
The macOS App driver does not allow me to operate on external monitors with the laptop closed. I had to uninstall the driver and reinstall the one from November to be able to work in clamshell mode. This is glitchy in the old driver, often freezing my computer. I was hoping to see this stabilize so I wouldn't have to restart so often (almost every time I disconnect my laptop from the docking station).
macOS 12 Monterey is now released and addresses the clamshell / lid closed use case on Intel macbook computers.

So I've got the exact same issue, but found some weird fix that I'm hoping will help DisplayLink fix the problem!
I've got my Macbook plugged into a Dell D6000 dock (the exact same behaviour also happens with a Startech DK30CH2DEPUE).
If I have the Macbook plugged into the dock, put the Macbook in clamshell mode, and have two external monitors connected via DisplayPort; I see the same thing, both external monitors turn off every ~10 seconds, and I have to click a button on the mouse to "wake" them up again.
The monitors definitely lose signal as they begin cycling through inputs;
However, the magic happens when I connect a USB-C to HDMI lead into the Macbook, plug this into one of the monitors. NOTE: I DO NOT USE THE SCREEN ON THIS HDMI INPUT, however just this cable being plugged in causes all the external monitors to stop this weird going-to-sleep behaviour.
I've made sure both monitors are still using the DisplayPort inputs from the dock.
I've repeated this experiment with two docks, two sets of DisplayPort cables and the behaviour is always the same.
Hopefully that helps someone debug this issue!

This resolved the issue for me:
Uninstall display link manager and install the display link driver, as explained in the post by KatarzynaKowalczyk at 08-28-2020, 09:38 AM here: https://www.displaylink.org/forum/showthread.php?t=67302

I have purchased the Universal Twin HD Pro USB Docking Station for my Mid 2012 MacBook Pro / Catalina 10.15.7 .
Clamshell mode does not work and multiple monitor setup is very clunky. Are these issues going to be addressed ? Very frustrated, along with all the other users on these forums...Is anything being done to resolve these issues ??

The approach with installing the legacy version (5.2.5 DisplayLink USB Graphics Software for macOS) only partly works for me. The lid mode works, but you cannot disconnect from the docking station properly (i.e. pull off the cable and run). Once you do that, the mac gets freezed and you have to restart (no go!).
I am running 10.15.7 on a 2018 MacBook Pro.

I followed zenofall's advice and installed the legacy version, and clamshell works great.
> "Go to legacy releases section just below the main download section and get 5.2.5 DisplayLink USB Graphics Software for macOS."
Just remove the the latest DisplayLink from your Applications folder. There's no dedicated uninstaller program. Then, restart (very important you restart!). Once you restart, then follow instruction for installing the legacy version (DisplayLink v5.2.5).

Instead of using the DisplayLink Manager Graphics Connectivity.
Go to legacy releases section just below the main download section and get 5.2.5 DisplayLink USB Graphics Software for macOS.
This works with the clamshell closed, I am on a 2019 MacBook Air 10.15.7 -

I'm having a similar issue. I just got a Kensington SD3650 docking station. When I run my Late 2012 Macbook Pro in clamshell mode, the two external monitors go dark for several seconds about every 45 seconds. It's fine with the laptop open, but part of the reason I got the docking station was so I could run the laptop as a desktop at home. Very frustrating so far.

Same here +4
I use two different macbooks on two different docking stations and get the faulty behaviour.
Why is this so lang in Analysis and open since August? What can the community do to help, push this forward quicker? Obviously there is quite a need on that end, since 38 people already took the effort and commented on that.

Yep same here...
2 external DELL monitors, DEll DL6000 dock using DP ports for monitors. Catalina 10.15.7. MPB 2017.
Fine with laptop screen open, 3 screens..
Close laptop screen and 'Displays' still shows 3 screens.
And my monitors blink every 40secs or so..Tried a mixture of all settings, updated dock firmware (really annoying to have to use Windows for this process!!!).
Please fix..!

I am having the same issue. Its super annoying .. I have to keep my laptop open on all the time. Is there a workaround? I have already downloaded the latest version of DisplayLink which is supposed to work on Catalina 10.15.7.

Any update on the fix for clamshell mode? It has been more than a month in Feasibility Analysis. If no update, then might have to return the docking station.

I have MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019), and dock is useless in clamshell mode. Every time I disconnect from dock Macbook needs restart.

Piggybacking, though my issue is slightly different. I updated to Catalina 10.15.6 and had to download the updated DisplayLink Manager. Since the update, if I close the MacBook, every 5 minutes or so the mac appears to go to sleep and wake back up and prompt me for my password again. Unusable. My workaround is to ALMOST close my MacBook. We'll see how that works out.
