DisplayLink Feature Suggestions

  1. Support for Samsung's Dex and Huawei's Desktop mode Android

Guys will be awesome that displaylink apps could take advantage of these features, they are already working desktop experiences for Android, we will only need you guys to support those functionalities over the wired connection instead just mirroring the phone.

  2. Beta macOS App: Clamshell / Lid Closed Mode

Beta Mac OS App driver does not allow me to operate on external monitors with the laptop closed. I had to uninstall the driver and reinstall the one from November to be able to work in clamshell mode. This is glitchy in the old driver, often freezing my computer. I was hoping to see this stabilize so I wouldn't have to restart so often (almost every time I disconnect my laptop from the docking station).

  3. Support both Xorg and Wayland with acceptable performance in Ubuntu 20.04

The current released Ubuntu installer doesn't work in 20.04, which will be released in a couple of months as the next LTS release.
If you hack the installer not to compile the kernel module, and instead use the kernel module and install the libevdi0 that ship with Ubuntu, then you can use DisplayLink under Wayland, but the performance is terrible -- significant lags in display updates and watching videos is impossible. And in this configuration DisplayLink doesn't work with Xorg at all.
Please rectify this before 20.04 ships.

  4. Clamshell mode with MacOS Catalina

Unable to use Clamshell mode (laptop lid closed) with MacOS Catalina. I always get the third display, despite my laptop being closed.

  5. MacOS Display Arrangement does not save.

With the latest release of Display Link, the Display Arrangement for a MacBook Air with 2 external monitors reverts back to default every time the machine is put to sleep or restarted.

  6. DisplayLink is still not working in MacOS 10.15.1

I was reading all open threads in the forum, and I can see different behaviors. In my case, I cannot use my external monitors, after upgrading my system to Catalina. Beta 3 driver is not working, and when I tried to clean cache system is getting hung after restart.

  7. Work to provide RHEL/CentOS native compatibility

Every employee in the modern corporate environment has a laptop.

On each laptop are displaylink drivers to support the docks at workstations (for 2 to 6 monitors).

All of those workstations run windows, but they don't have to - they could run RHEL or CentOS instead, if there was a displaylink driver available.

Please work to create and support a displaylink driver for RHEL/CentOS. You would bring joy to many developers and engineers working from both home and office.

As the displays are relevant for only the workstations, creating it only for the latest version and not back-porting (RHEL/CentOS 8)…

  9. Add support for 5120x1440 resolution

There are several monitors on the market with such resolution Dell U4919DW, Philips 499P9H, LG 49WL95C-W and Samsung CRG9. At least for Philips 499P9H I'm not able set this resolution with i-tec device on Ubuntu. https://i-tec.cz/de/produkt/u3dual4kdp-3/

  12. Fix the High CPU usage (20-40%) issue! Mint Linux 19.3 Kernel 5.4 & Cinnamon UI. Fan kicks in every 2 minutes-DisplayLink is top process

Fix the High CPU usage (20-40%) issue! Mint Linux 19.3 Kernel 5.4 & Cinnamon UI. Fan kicks in every 2 minutes-DisplayLink is top process using between 20 and 50% of CPU every 2 minutes. I have only one 32" monitor connected at 2560x1440 resolution and 60 Hz and using Chrome to browse the web (Phillips 328E)

  13. Solve the iTunes crash issue on Mac

Every time iTunes is started on a Mac with a second monitor driven by a DisplayLink-based adapter, one has to be aware NEVER to minimize the iTunes window: this always lead to the OS crashing and sending the user back to the login window.

It doesn't matter which monitor iTunes is displayed upon: if minimized, it WILL crash. Please fix.

  14. Avoid boot time stall due to udev rules

The script deployed by the displaylink installer at /opt/displaylink/udev.sh is triggered by udev rules and will run:

    systemctl start displaylink-driver

Under certain conditions this will trigger "udevadm settle" to block forever as it leaved processes left and can't return.

I found https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/51760/commits/c72bb28b9cb5138d39647f8fa12394443fea682d which fixes the issue for them.
Applying the same to /opt/displaylink/udev.sh in Ubuntu 20.04 works just fine, the boot is fast again and functionality had no negative impact.

So please could you change this line in your code to be like:
    systemctl start --no-block displaylink-driver

  16. Add an annotation: "Remember to update your equipment from the manufacturer's site"

Since the last update of MacOS, it was no longer possible for me to use my 2 screens with my macbook 12 "and my dell docking station.
Even uninstalling / reinstalling Displaylink nothing helped.

The solution: Connect my Dell D6000 dock to a Windows PC and make the update available on the Dell site.
Everything has been working again. If some are having problems with their docking stations, perhaps an update is available on the manufacturer's website.

  17. We need to be able to select the rendering GPU.

I have 3 GPUs in my computer and the DisplayLink driver always defaults to GPU 0 in the system. I only want GPU 0 to drive a single monitor, and use my secondary GPUs for rendering non-intensive content, which is what I use the USB monitor for.

  18. Fix drivers about screen lag when using external 4K monitor (macOS Catalina)

Please fix DisplayLink Drivers as using an external 4K monitor (Samsung S32R750) with Targus DV4K with latest drivers (5.2.5) on macOS Catalina (10.15.6 on MacBook Pro 16" 2020) plugged through Apple USB-C cable (40 Gbits) is making everything "laggy" on the external 4K (mouse, space change, video playing, etc.).
Everything has been tested (cables check and changes, switching HDMI or DisplayPort, using original Targus single USB-C cable or using Apple USB-C cable, etc.) to see this issue it is ONLY and DIRECTLY linked to DisplayLink Drivers on MacOS.
No issues when using a simple USB-C adapter with 4K HDMI (instead…

  19. Provide a direct download link for latest the (Mac) driver download

This would allow Mac Admins to automate the process of downloading DisplayLink software whenever there is a new version using open-source projects such as autopkg. The implementation of a ToS page breaks our current functionality.

Perhaps even make a specific URL for admins, that when used implies that we agree to the ToS.

This would allow us to push DisplayLink updates to our users much faster.

  20. API or Atom Feed of Downloads

It would be highly beneficial to have access to an atom feed or API endpoint to query and determine if there are updates available for driver packages.
