Support f.lux and Night Light on Windows
Flux will reduce the amount of blue light emitted by the screen which aids going to bed. As it stands, there is no support for color calibration to DisplayLink connected monitors. DCC/CI commands are supported, but there are issues that make it not a viable solution (http://superuser.com/questions/257606/is-there-a-work-around-to-configure-brightness-or-color-on-a-displaylink-monitor).

This is awesome news, Alban! Thanks to you and your team. Count me in for the development build testing!

@johan and all. The products which will first be supported have their hardware ID starting with USB\VID_17e9&PID_43. You can get the hardware ID from Device Manager in the device details (see how to find the HWID in http://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/544834#otherdevices).
Once I have a development build, I will probably create a forum board. -

I'm sad to find that my Asus usb external monitor can't do f.lux... This won't be fun. If you think it's possible to support, please do.

It's not been "planned" for two years Rowen...

Please add functionality to adjust colors, gamma, contrast, brightness and other appropriate settings.

So it's "planned" but never released?! It's been 2 years... it doesn't take that long to add in FLUX support. Please our eyes are begging you, add FLUX support!!!

Brian,
TL;DR: It's a big job and we don't do hack jobs so it takes time.
Details:
f.lux support is under analysis. This requires extensive firmware and some host software work.
There are 10s of millions of devices in the field with a bit more than one version of Windows, some with one display, some with two, some with three... Some with HDMI, VGA, DisplayPort, DVI, and a combination of everything.
Today, we do not modify the image in any way, we take the output of the graphics card. This is brand new feature that is requested, not just a tweak. This new feature MUST NOT, in any way, create issues when not in use (so in most cases). We need to setup brand new test rigs and test suite to defend it. -
I have deleted injurious comments from Marek Ziel (Apsik).

Is there anything that we, as consumers, can do to assist with this feature? Also, I'd still love to hear about anything Alpha/Beta that comes along.

Really appreciate if you can provide the feature to control the colour using flux through Display Link... Thanks....

OK, thanks.
Maybe I'm missing something then because my calibration do not seem to get applied to my monitors. Anything I need to do to make sure the settings are passed through?
-
@All. f.lux support is under analysis. We met with the f.lux developers to discuss an implementation which will keep working with new versions of f.lux.
We are trying to think about to support individual colour correction rather than just an identical gamma curve change applied to all displays. However, we don't yet if it is possible.@Andrew. DDC/CI pass-through on DL-3000 and DL-5000 was released as part of 8.0 M0 so has been available already.

I use the Datacolor Spyder monitor calibration.
As of Displaylink 8.1 I believe DCC/CI pass through is supported for DL-6950 devices only. Is that correct?
Any update on when this might be available for DL-5900 products?

I've resorted to a dirty manual WORKAROUND for this:
Using the OSD controls on the monitor itself to desaturate the green and blue until the colour matches the colour output of my laptop screen :-)
Not ideal, and my colleagues probably get a bit confused/upset when they encounter a hotdesk where I've made this change and forgotten to revert it.
-
@Viking, you do not need f.lux to change brightness. You can use Screenbright, a free utility which is already supported across all recent docking stations with DisplayLink technology.

I've been mistakenly stuck with a DisplayLink device without knowing I was purchasing one. The lack of F.lux support is the primary issue I have with the device. Reliably waking up from sleep is another issue, but the lack of F.lux due to color profiles is right up there as well.
I'm looking around for laptop to multiple monitors solutions and at present, wherever I see DisplayLink I'm moving on quicklky due to the colour profiles issue.
Can you provide an ETA on your progress on this? Your last update is half a year old.

Would be wonderful to have it. I am even considering to use other alternatives. I am using three monitors one with Display Link, It is a huge difference for my eyes.
