Support rotation on M1 Macs
Update to enable rotation to work correctly on M1 Macs.

DisplayLink Manager 1.6 or newer (https://synaptics.com/products/displaylink-graphics/downloads/macos) on macOS 12 Monterey now enables display rotation on Apple M1 computers (details in https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1984314 )
For issues with this new functionality, please reach out to Technical-Enquiries@Synaptics.com so the team can investigate through a technical support ticket.

Since they weren't updating us, I reached out to them and got this response:
"This feature is still in development even though the option to rotate screen has been removed in the most recent release of the driver. The release is not entirely dependent on us, it requires cooperation with the OS vendor therefore we cannot commit to any date or timeline for the release.
Once there is an update we will update the FAQ on our website and also a notification will be sent out to anyone who signed up for notifications." -

"Improved rotated-screen performance" = took away rotate screen button from prefs
You're like those girls promising to give some, but first you gotta buy dinner and presents, and of course she gets a sudden headache. Don't be like that. -

Please add this, similar to other users, would not have made the investment in new monitor and dongle have I known that this was not supported.

Please release an update so that rotated screens are supported on Mac M1 chip. Thank you!

With excitement I just downloaded DisplayLink Manager v1.4 because the release notes said "Improved rotated-screen performance".
But it looks like the only change is now there is no longer a "rotation" option for my displaylink display in system preferences.I noticed the Known Issues still says
"Screen rotation on Mac with Apple M1 chip is not supported on macOS Big Sur 11.1. "
I'm assuming that they mean macOS Big Sur 11.X since I'm using 11.3.1 and it still doesn't work.I'm a little worried that if they went through the trouble of hiding the rotate option no fix is coming any time soon.

Warning:
** This appears to be broken or NOT completed despite the tag from September 2020 **
Tue, Jun 1, 2021 4:59 PM -- On the M1 Macbook Pro, this seems still broken in DisplayLink Manager 1.3.1 (latest) with MacOS 11.4 Big Sur
USB to display link adapter = https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-USB-Dual-DisplayPort-Adapter/dp/B07C69HG33/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
Rotate does not work with monitor https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LPNKFK0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Screen is just black when rotation is tried.
If a PRE-release version of the software is available that DOES support rotation, I'd be happy to try it out. Let me know.

Any update on this? I just spent a lot of money on dongles + monitors only to find out about this issue during setup. I'm really disappointed.

Using M1 Macbook Pro (Big Sur) and bell external monitors. I would not have purchased a hub had I known this previously. Always worked on a portrait and landscape external monitor until now. Please fix it soon !!

I'm also having this issue. Any word on a resolution? I'm seeing many topics about it
I got rotation to work on M1 catalina with these instructions. It's pretty slow tho, like working on remote desktop. I thought it was a little smoother after lowering my refresh rate to 24hz.

https://support.displaylink.com/forums/287786-displaylink-feature-suggestions/suggestions/39748219-screen-rotation-on-macos-appThanks a lot to Whomever rote the comment in October 20, 2020 with the steps to fix the issue (below)... it worked perfectly! I do have MacOs 10.15.7 Catalina ... The only extra things I had to do were
1) Uninstall DisplayLink previous version
2) Reboot and restart your docking station (I have a startech.com)
3) Quit any 3rd party tool you might have for Monitor management (I have "Display Menu")
4) Follow the below process, and wait for reboot to happen after the installation. It could take more than 5 min and it could looks like nothing is happening but DO NOT TURN OFF your computer.========= ORIGINAL POST ==============
After 2 hours of troubleshooting, I finally was able to get rotation working on Catalina 10.15.5. My setup is 3 externals, 1 ultrawide as main and 2 smaller screens left and right. I have my left screen in portrait orientation.
1) Install Legacy driver 5.2.5 https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1636
2) Restart
3) For me, I had to unplug and replug power of dock to get Dell D6000 dock to recognize all 3 externals
4) If for some reason System preferences is already open, CLOSE IT
5) Move your mouse to the screen that you want to rotate
6) On -that- screen, Apple Icon -> System preferences
7) Hold down Option + CMD keys and click 'Displays' in the System preferences
8) You should then see the 'Rotate' option -only- on the dialog on the screen that actually opened 'Displays' from System Preferences.TLDR: The rotate option only seems to show on the screen that is actually opening system preferences -> Displays.
Really painful to figure this out but it works for me.

@miguel those instructions work for me on M1 Catalina. Thank you! It's far from ideal tho, very slow, even for productivity tasks. Like working in remote desktop. We really need a better solution!
I think it got a little smoother when I lowered that screens refresh rate to 24 hz.
