Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews
The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.
Dear DisplayLink macOS users,
We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.
Driver 5.0.1: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1257
If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004
Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301
Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. An FAQ details how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724
Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.
We thank you for your feedback on DisplayLink products that helps us further improve our product offering.
Kind regards,
Alban

How is this still not solved? Seems like by the time you guys get it together there will be a new iOS to cause issues.. I'm sick of ignoring the update notification and asking it to remind me tomorrow. I want to update to the newest iOS and can't. SMH.

I have a mid 2010 iMac that doesn't support Airplay. Do i have any other options besides waiting for a true fix to this problem?

The Airplay workaround worked beautifully. Thanks for your diligence in achieving this resolution, and thank you for the clear instructions on how to enable this feature. I'm successfully using extended mode on three displays (MacBook Air 2017 main display and two 1080p LCDs) with no resolution loss. I really appreciate your efforts! Much respect.

I finally was able to extend the screen. I had to unplug the adapter several times before it actually worked even though I had "Use as separate display" checked.

I've gone through the steps for the latest Mac solution beta 4, but I cannot get Airplay to show up. I've gone through the steps 3 times, just to make sure. I made sure to uninstall and reboot and then reinstall and reboot and not plug in the display links until it said to.

I appreciate this isn't 100% displaylinks fault, but its time for me to move on to other solutions. Into the drawer you go.

this sucks ... for sure we have to update for security reasons. So a gap more than a week without a functional driver simply sucks! Then the hardware/dock is completely worthless!

this update helped me get two external monitors + laptop screen back up for my macbook air. one via displaylink hub and one via displayport. last beta after a few minutes the usb screen would freak out and clone the primary (whether it be the laptop or displayport). so working now.
i still can't rotate any displays using the hub. it gives me the option on displayport but it's basically a very shrunken version of a regular widescreen display in the middle of a rotated monitor. my guess is because i have "airplay" on that it won't let me rotate anything.
oh well... getting closer to normal productivity i guess.

Can connecting through a thunderbolt doc solve this problem?

I appreciate that the problem is not to DisplayLink's making but having had a frustrating couple of months with solutions that are anything but, my Dell DisplayLink Hub has now been relegated to a drawer.
I have a 2017 Apple MacbookPro at work
I'm now using a USB-C to HDMI for external monitor 1 (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06XS7T4GP?aaxitk=9G39TSMIcOG23CNqVsDKhg ) and a USB-C to HMDI with 'USB-C Charging Port' (https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01EPU7RME/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?smid=A2QUE3YM2EB9AQ&psc=1) for external monitor 2.
This solution (those two products) cost £35 together. There are no drivers; it's plug-and-play, and works really well.
I'll add that I would not have encountered problems with the DisplayLink MacOS driver had I have been using TimeMachine. I've since remedied that.
I hope that the solutions that I've found can work for others; though I realise that this means spending yet more money.
Good luck everybody.

this workaround doesn't work for me. My display does turn on, but even after following the instructions, I can only get my display to mirror my laptop; it doesn't extend the screen at all :( :( :(

Could this post help the developers isolate the issue that so many of us are experiencing?
I'm facing a very strange conundrum: both at work and at home I have an identical ASUS MB169C+ 15.6" Full HD 1920x1080 monitor, connected via a USB hub to my late 2017 MacBook Pro with macOS 10.13.4.
I’m still running the DisplayLink driver v4.1, the one that ‘broke’ since I upgraded to High Sierra 10.13.4.
But what’s really weird is that at work the driver still works as expected and the ASUS monitor shows the extended desktop! But at home the driver doesn’t work, and the ASUS is mirroring the laptop display.
I have no idea how this is possible, as I carry the laptop back and forth every day, and the only real difference in this setup is a different brand of the USB 3 hub.
A while ago I tried to connect the monitor at home directly to the laptop, but it shows only the mirrored desktop, that’s why I’m ruling the two different USB hubs out.
This is very strange indeed, and I am not able to even guess what’s going on here. The same driver works fine at work, but doesn’t show the extended desktop at home.
Any thoughts?

Also for those who cannot get it work, I am curious if you are always making sure to NEVER login with your displaylink hardware connected..... that is the key I believe. they even added it to the instructions actually. I wonder if those who cannot get extended and only getting mirror are forgetting that step.

I am glad I checked here before installing beta 4... beta 3 is a superstar so far for me... I think I may wait for Beta 5 thank you very much! For people who have laptops do you use the laptop screen as an additional monitor as well rather than close it? Might as well, yes? And for me as well this page has a permanent icon on my desktop now.

So i have uninstalled the driver, reinstalled the driver, mirroring options are checked. There is no dialogue
box that opens in Security and privacy. HELP!!!! -
Dave commented
I am able to extend but the resolution is poor and the other resolution options aren't suitable. It's a temporary fix that I hope is VERY temporary. Unbelievable that this is happening.

I agree EZ. I can't believe I check this forum every day. I have the latest beta working without issue so far though it took some work to get it going.
I know what forum I will check the next time Apple rolls out a new version. I have 2017 MacBook Air so I'm pretty screwed by Apple on this unless I wish to go to a recent Pro.

I would respect this company so much more if they would just be honest. Beta releases that are completely different options using Airplay from what existed before is not a solution to the original issue, its a different solution. So why not just say that. Because they are still selling devices and not telling their customers the truth that they don't work. I might as well get a used Apple TV and use Airplay with that and at least know it will work correctly.

This workaround seems to be working just fine for me. I uninstalled the drivers, installed new beta, unchecked mirroring in display options to get an extended view, set my display arrangement and resolution, and am now working on my laptop display and two additional monitors. I connected one HDMI monitor and the displaylink hub (DVI monitor connected to hub) usb cable direct to my usb-c hub/adapter. Ideally I would like to only use one usb connection from my displaylink hub to a usb-c port for multiple displays, but this is far better than nothing, or having to buy another Mac adapter for a DVI connection.

I can extend the display. If I close the MacBook and only use the external display, every few seconds you get a DisplayLinkStop error and screen blanks for a few seconds. When it comes back, you have to log into the Mac again. This happens 1 to 2 times per minute while the laptop is closed. It appears not to do that if you leave the laptop open.
We are having to use USB-C to HDMI dongles to bypass the dock in order to get this to work.
Not acceptable.
