Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews

The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.

We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.

If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004

Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301

Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.

    I bought a MPC Touch device and now I see it's functionality is less than a regular cheap pad control, I don't know why apple does these revolutionary changes on it's system, I can't blame akai pro or display link but the thing is, what's the gap here, if an OS has enough data and/or if there is no way to update previous works for new OS update, so why you don't start from scratch and create new version of the driver, you know it's so simple, after ios 11 I remember many apps stopped working but over 90 percent of them did the correct job and manage their code based on new OS. it's so sad to see that the most genius solution is to roll back the OS update!

    This is a big issue for us as the entire team runs on a mac and dell 3.0 usb 4k hub for three monitors...now we have the one screen showing us all. Very bad affect in our use case. The fix has been to use multiple cables and ports vs the ease of before. We also noticed an audio issue and the fix.

    Can you let us know when fixed?

    This is SO frustrating! Your bandaid does NOT work, and I am sitting here with a blank monitor Monday thru Friday, providing me with a constant reminder, "Hey dumbo.. you should have run a backup before updating your system!"
    I have contacted Apple. pleading with them to provide me with their base High Sierra install.. but they give me the middle finger and tell me there is nothing they can do.. like they completely wiped the file from existence!
    Then they use the typical - "We cannot support third party vendors, so please contact them"
    PLEASE FIX THIS!!!!

    @James: "progress towards finding a solution which would restore full extended display support for multiple DisplayLink displays in a future release of macOS." Yes, it is clear from this quote that we'll have to wait at least for the next release, and the next release is called Mojave. If we're lucky, we'll get a fix released that works on the developer previews. If we're not lucky, we might have to wait till 10.14.1.

    Sounds like whoever originally wrote the original macOS DisplayLink drivers is no longer with the company, and so Apple's breaking changes in 10.13.4 caught them with their pants down.

    @James, If I were a betting man, I'd say that they'll probably also come up with a way to tell you that you have to buy new hardware as well...

    Does anyone know if you have to have both the J5Create USB3 to VGA driver installed as well as the Displaylink Beta 5 drivers?

    I can get my system to recognize the 3 monitors, (1 via HDMI via Thunderbolt 2 dock, MB in-built display and the DisplayLink via Airplay) however Displaylink via airplay monitor is blacked out.

    Not sure if I only need both drivers or only one and if anyone has an order of install.

    I've uninstalled both so now just have the MB in-build and HDMI to Thunderbolt dock working.

    Any new updates for High Sierra 10.13.4 ... the last time displays went blank after the OS update DisplayLink driver v4.1.
    How is it this time?

    To everyone who has been coming back here day after day, month after month hoping, praying and expecting to see or hear some kind of news regarding DisplayLinks progress toward a fix, for their broken High Sierra drivers, have I got some bad news for you. I really hate to break it to you like this, but there is, has been, and will be no fix coming for DisplayLinks High Sierra drivers anytime soon, if ever. Why you ask? Well, just take a look at the apple website here and see for yourself:

    The gist of it is, starting this Fall, Apple is going to be releasing a brand new version of the macOS they have dubbed “Mojave”, upgrading their current Sierra/High Sierra series OS’s to Mojave anyways. Why is that relevant? Well for one, it sure would explain why we haven't seen a fix as of yet, (other than their "so-called” temporary fix via Airplay & a Beta driver), which from coming from an IT professionals prospective, such as my own, (something in which I have many years of experience), wouldn't even consider "true" fix in every sense of the word, and in fact, If you were to ask, I'd be willing to bet you that most IT professionals would agree with me when I say that, DisplayLinks "temporary fix," really amounts to nothing more than a cheap Band-Aid (you know, like the one's you can get from the $1 store that never keep falling off & never stay on like their supposed to), (pun intended), in layman’s terms it’s basically all just bubble gum, spit, and duct tape, and honestly, I'd be hard pressed to even call it that, and sadly if you are one of the one’s, who’s been waiting patiently, watching the website daily expecting a fix to come for the High Sierra DL driver, don’t hold your breath, (you’d suffocate first.) The reason, looking at it in terms of both a business executive (CEO or otherwise), and IT (Internet Technologies) professional, such as myself, I can tell you with 100% certainty, confidence, and accuracy, that not only is it, going to be so much easier for them to code, test, debug, fix, and implement a working version of their drivers for Mojave, which as I said before, is due to be released in the Fall of this year, it would make zero business sense to devote any amount of labor, time, money, resources, or otherwise trying to hunt down an obscure bug/glitch, (a literal technological needle in a haystack mind you ), for a version of the macOS, and DisplayLink drivers that are going to be deemed obsolete, and phased within the next few months anyways. It aint gonna happen. In all honesty, I wouldn’t be shocked, amazed, or surprised, if DisplayLink came right out, and made a statement, to the effect that they’re no longer going to supporting High Sierra sometime in the near future, and as for a fix for High Sierra’s current broken DisplayLink drivers, I highly doubt that they’re even working on a fix for the DL High Sierra drivers at all anymore, instead choosing to devote all of their time, money, manpower, and resources into developing a brand new working version of their Mac drivers for OS Mojave, building, and redesigning it to work flawlessly with the new OS from the ground up, well in advance of it’s slated fall 2018 release, giving them plenty of time, (months on end in fact), to develop, implement, and test thier driver builds before Mojave is publicly released. Ensuring that they have a completed working Mojave driver package when Mojave is finally released this Fall.

    I don't know if I'm missing something ... but have the last two updates been exactly the same wording? what's changed? the FAQ? it'd be nice to know when you intend to send the same message as the last what about this new message is DIFFERENT.

    Thank you for confirming what most people here already know.

    We would prefer to hear more details what is actually stopping you from rolling out the solution?

    Like in any project if there is no time frame then things normally take ages and eventually get killed by project managers or product owners. So, if this is going to take another n amount of months or years then it's better to let others know so we could look for alternative solutions that maybe are as not as fragile.

    Hello, we paid 300$ for dell docking with display link chipset and now it's 4 month that you give 5 beta patch that doesn't resolve the problem and it is working one time each 3-4 plug/unplug? Now I have an 50$ travel adapter and it is working well, so where is the problem?

    Hello Alban - I know the problem is intractable, and as such defies timelines. Still, is there a 'real' ETA for a fix for Mac? Every time I plug my mac in now, I have to plug in all 4 USB-C ports - two monitors, keyboard/mouse, and power. I'm not alone in this - most of my company has the same problem, with a lot of unused DL docks on desks.
