    I would think having it as a module would be more supportive over multiple kernels. This way you dont have to recompile a kernel for each distro just compile the module for the kernel WHy NVIDIA, AMD and VMWARE do it.

  2. Fix the display link ubuntu. When another monitor is plugged in and when at stand alone, monitors turn off and on or the displaylink fails.

    you can try my script

    I wrote a script to run on startup after I logged into ubuntu 16.04, this wil lsetup external monitors and or turn off the laptop screen. Everything is configured via ini file in ~/.config/dplink.ini
