Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews
The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.

Dear DisplayLink macOS users,
We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.
Driver 5.0.1: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1257
If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004
Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301
Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. An FAQ details how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724
Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.
We thank you for your feedback on DisplayLink products that helps us further improve our product offering.
Kind regards,
Alban

@Alban Rampon; still no 2018 model fix, but I lost my patience.
I've had a MBP for months now and have not been able to properly use multiple screens once.
Our offices will switch to Elgato docks from now on. -

Ok, so I might have a fix for you guys. I am on a Macbook Air 2017. I had DisplayLink working for about a week on Mojave with driver 4.3.1 then 5, but it just randomly started showing only one dark grey and one black screen even though they recognised that they were plugged in. On a whim I just tried rebuilding the kext cache from the terminal - "sudo kextcache -i /". It complained about system policy authentication failure, at which point go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy and then click the Allow button again. Restart and you might get your display back!

Holy cow you guys are a DISASTER! I am sure everyone is gonna continue to point the finger at Apple but after 11 mos between each of the last two OS releases, DisplayLink has had PLENTY of time to fix this and clearly is unable! (if you understand development, you will not dispute this)
This has to turn into a class action suit at some point if it hasn't already. I mean this is #@%@#% ridiculous in my opinion! I have worked with plenty of hardware and software developers in my career and this is by far the worst I've ever seen. DisplayLink is clearly very INCAPABLE of solving this. I have to say I am officially bailing after trying to be as positive and patient as possible during this all but this dongle city that I have attached to my Mac is embarrassing and frustrating.
You should be ashamed and embarrassed of yourselves!

@Dale I recommend you promptly bail on Displaylink. It'll likely never be resolved. Back in July, after waiting since April for a resolution, I decided to buy this http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/dh2go/digital_me/ I've been humming along with two peripheral monitors since. I also have a mid-2010 system for work. I just check this thread for curiosity on what I should do with my old EVGA adapter hardware. Looks like they're going to be recycled.

I have users also experiencing the same issues where the display recognizes that there is a feed that should be going to it but nothing outputs on the display. After you pretty much abandoned10.13.4 and up this is unacceptable. There was hope for months that this would be the glorious fix and now that neither solution really works, my end users are just out of luck. It would be nice if you could get this sorted since this has been an issue for a good part of this year. My users are on 2017 MacBook Airs.

Just ordered the Sabrent Thunderbolt 3 dock that supports the peripherals without being dependent on DisplayLink. Its on sale on Amazon at a very decent price. Will test it out today when I get it and see how it goes.

Inkscape problem – "page property" dialog box does not open.
I am running Mojave 10,14 and DLink 5.01. With DLink display, this dialog box of Inkscape does not open. Inkscape is v 0.92.2 and XQuartz version is 2.7.11.
I did not have this problem with the previous DLink driver that used AirPlay. When I disconnect my USB DLink display, the dialog correctly appears.
For this reason, I think some bug in the new DLink driver is the reason for the problem.

@DisappointedOne, as I've understood DisplayLink has done what they can to fix the issue. What is left Apple has to fix the bug on OS X side to add support for newer Macbook's hardware. I interpreted that the OS X fix already exists too but Apple hasn't distributed it yet.

5.0.1 not working on a Macbook Air Mid-2013 with Mojave 10.14 (I'm using a Dell D3100). The external monitor lights up with a black screen. Mouse cursor not present either.
Previously I had it working with 4.3 Beta 6 but after a restart graphics stopped working (no updates whatsoever). I then decided to install 5.0.1 but it hasn't fixed the problem. USB, LAN etc working without problems though.

@Alban, are you saying that 5.0.0/5.0.1 fixes the problem for 2018 MBP? It does not look like it as many have tried both the version and we all see the black screens with just a mouse cursor and nothing else.
Please tell me there will be another release that will fix this issue.

I can confirm that 5.0.1 does not fix the MBP 2018 problems - our users who have tried it still have black screen with only the mouse showing.
-
@Mykl: 5.0.0 and 5.0.1 are already supporting those models. The problem is not in the driver. The driver uses an OS API which doesn't care about model/GPU. We have asked for the bug fix to be distributed.

I have a Mac mini (Mid 2010) running OS 10.13.6, and one DisplayLink Adapter with the 4.3 version. In attempting to set this up, I realized that there is no AirPlay on my Mac Mini. Is there any way to get the driver for 10.13.6 so that it will work without AirPlay which is not supported on my Mac Mini?

@Keegan, thank you.
Seriously this is so disappointing. I fail to understand why DL is not fixing it or perhaps they dont want to. I think I just need to buy the Plugable dock from Amazon, though its expensive but its reliable.

@DisappointedOne nope :( 5.0.1 does not fix black screen with cursor issue on my 13" 2018 Macbook Pro. (Model: 15,2)

Does 5.0.1 not fix the MacBook Pro 2018 issue? I haven't tried it since I am at work and do not have access to my MBP. Its would be so disappointing if it did not support 2018. Can you confirm please?

Alban: Do you have any idea when to expect displaylink 5.x.x with support for MacBook PRO 2018 is released.

Adrian commented
Ha... 5.0 works fine for me. I'm leaving well enough alone. Going after the latest release left me w/o external monitors for months... I learned my lesson. Keep your 5.1 release.
