Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews
The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.
Dear DisplayLink macOS users,
We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.
Driver 5.0.1: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1257
If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004
Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301
Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. An FAQ details how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724
Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.
We thank you for your feedback on DisplayLink products that helps us further improve our product offering.
Kind regards,
Alban

Please tell us one way or another. Simply. Is this going to be fixed? I don't care if it's in 2 weeks, I just want to know if I should return the dock that I bought recently, that worked until I updated.

Well, damned if you do and damned if you don't.
A rollback is "not a safe or wise alternative at all," and the PurgeWrangler script disables System Integrity Protection, which is the Worst Thing That Could Ever Happen.
Then there's sitting and waiting.
If you use computers to a purpose, you might not be inclined to such philosophic calm.
A fourth alternative, however, is to move to Windows. It can run successfully on Apple hardware. I've done it on a daily basis for years with little trouble. If you have room on your hard drive, you could partition it and install Windows 10 with BootCamp. Much software is by subscription and cross-platform these days, and you may find, if you use such software, the macOS has no unique charm. Personally, I've used Apple-based CAD for years, which is my main reason to stick with the macOS. But ALL my monitors continue to work nicely at the same time under Windows 10, running on the same Apple hardware that has now been made to support only one with the current macOS. All this has led me to rediscover the virtues of AutoCAD, among with much other software, on Windows 10. And I don't have to buy an exclusively Windows-based computer—at least not yet. -

A roll back is not a safe or wise alternative at all. Not only the computer will be exposed to well known security issues but, the processor, memory usage and disk access problems identified in the previous versions will be back again. Not sure about other programs updates compatibility but, is also is another area of concern.

yes its safe, many of us have successfully rolled back and are just waiting now on an update from DL but this is the safest way back to 10.13.3 atm unless you have time machine. follow instructions, do not try to shortcut it, and remember to backup before you proceed.

Apple disable any means to get video through USB and there is no way for Display Link to be able to bypass this unfortunate decision. Please clarify this issue and put an end to this hopeless thread of frustrated customers.

I have been suggesting class action lawsuit. I am not trying to abuse our legal system but executing basic rights of the end user. Like Rich D stated below, CEO has not even bothered to make a statement. I don't know what the priority of this issue is for DisplayLink team. If we file a lawsuit that will certainly make this a priority. I am reaching out to all individuals affected by this issue and hope to see my attorney this Monday.

I've been watching this thread on and off since I was hit by the same disappointing reality when I upgraded macOS. I have zero connection with DisplayLink I should say, and as a result of facing this issue I no longer use my Dell D3100 dock. I am lucky since I have a 2016 pro so can drive two screens after picking up a USB-C to HDMI which can also deliver power from the Apple Charger too. I didn't use that originally because I liked my first thought of being able to drop a Chromebook or a Windows laptop on the same desk and get the same experience with a full set of peripherals.
It's true I too have been more than a little underwhelmed by the comms coming out of DisplayLink on this issue, news has been typically late and lacking detail. However I would caution people to remember, there is no 'online shop' on this site, we do not buy products from DisplayLink, they in some way license their technology to the people we buy from, in my case Dell via Amazon. Maybe they manufacture, I have no idea...but we definitely do not buy from them.
The reason I say this is because they are clearly not geared up to or experienced in responding to these issues in the same way the Dell's and Amazon's of this world are....I'm not saying thats how things should be nor am i saying DisplayLink deserve sympathy, I'm pretty certain they are learning some painful lessons right now....I just don't remember Gigabyte or Nvidia being any easier to deal with.
Personally I'd be surprised if there is anything MORE urgent for them across the entire DisplayLink business right now.....because evidently we don't know yet (well I don't at least) if this is a policy decision from Apple that would kill off the benefit of DisplayLink technology for Apple users, or something that might someday soon have a fix.
I know many will not agree, and yes I'm lucky because I have a Plan B, personally I think the best thing DisplayLink could do right now is post a statement, here, from the CEO or similar, setting out the position...
- do they believe this issue to be solve-able on current hardware or not?
- do they require Apple's co-operation to solve?.....if so has it been indicated that they will get it?
- if they can't yet say, when do they think they will be in the position to answer? To me, those are perfectly reasonable questions. After all we can bang on about the issue being known about for months but as they say 'we are where we are'. If, however, within the next week or two, they can't answer those questions (don't have an important relationship with Apple), or they wont (it's probably bad news).....well, that gives everybody the answer I feel.

So I get an email update from DL today and they just cut and pasted their original message from the 2nd. What a joke.

Please send updates when their is an updated driver or another solution that won't take all day getting around downgrading OS versions. With today's times I would assume this wouldn't take so long to fix.

Hi all ! I was able to make dual screen work. I am connecting one monitor with display port and other one with this DisplayLink adaptor. I have macbook air 2012 running Mac OS 10.13.4.
The problem is the resolution it not good on the monitor thats connected through USB to DisplayLink Adaptor. I have tried both VGA and HDMI. Also, monitor connected to display port has a 1080p and also 1600x900 available. However the monitor connected through the DisplayLink is also not showing a fitted screen. I can see black area on each side about 2 inches wide. But the dual screen works.
