Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews
The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.
Dear DisplayLink macOS users,
We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.
Driver 5.0.1: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1257
If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004
Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301
Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. An FAQ details how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724
Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.
We thank you for your feedback on DisplayLink products that helps us further improve our product offering.
Kind regards,
Alban

Come on, be a pro and work this out not in a week, not in two weeks but ... before 10.13.4 comes out. Is there any testing done by Displaylink? Why is there no ATA on a solution?
This isn't happening... so many people working with multiple screens are looking ... at a black screen... and down with productivity, down with commitment to DisplayLink and in the end also ...down with Apple.
Patience is gone, we want a solution not tomorrow ... today. -

Our CEO was happy about this solution and we thought to use this all around the office.
now he can only duplicate his screen, this is not what I would expect from a company that sell this as a flagship product. Please fix this ASAP . Do not blame Apple try to write better software and respect the standard imposed by vendors.
thanks! -

10.13.5 Beta 2 is not fixing this, it's quite clear that Apple will not fix this because it's simply not their problem. You knew it for months and you still sell your shizzle...

Just bought the MB169B+ off Amazon and plugged it into my early 2013 mac book pro. Unfortunately, I'm on the latest version of Mac OS X and rolling back isn't very easy. I understand technology is difficult. Will be following the thread closely for the extended mode fix. Cloned mode works good, but yea, I only need the monitor for extended mode.

I don't care if it was Apple or DL. What I want is my external displays working in extended mode back again.
Is that fair enough ?

This right here points to Apple actually making some changes to the way that kext's are signed and DisplayLink is trying to figure out why it's not working. This was in their new postinstall scripts in the DisplayLink Software Installer_pkg. The only time that they use this function ensure_kext_user_approval is if the OS version number is High Sierra or newer.
function ensure_kext_user_approval()
{
local bundle_name="$1"
local kext_path="$2"
if ! is_kext_loaded "$bundle_name"; then
# Sideffect of kextload command is "System Extension Blocked" popup
# and refresh of kexts list in Security&Privacy window.
# https://developer.apple.com/library/content/technotes/tn2459/_index.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/DTS40017658
echo "Load $kext_path"
kextload "$kext_path"
if [ "$?" == "27" ]; then
echo "User approval for "$bundle_name" kext is required!"
fi
else
echo "Kext approval not required."
fi
}function install()
{
local SRC=/private/var/tmp
local DST=/Library/Extensionsecho "DisplayLinkSignedKext postinstall script running..."
cleanup_previous_displaylink_driversecho "DisplayLinkSignedKext moving files to the right place..."
install_kext "$SRC/DisplayLinkDriver.kext" "$DST/DisplayLinkDriver.kext"
if is_HighSierra_or_later; then
ensure_kext_user_approval com.displaylink.driver.DisplayLinkDriver "$DST"/DisplayLinkDriver.kext
fiecho "DisplayLinkDriver postinstall script done."
}install

Dear Anonymous (asking about alternative to Displaylink with USB 3.0 input and HDMI output for MacBook Pro), do not buy another device that uses USB 3.0 input no matter what company manufactures it. The 10.13.4 Mac OS basically disabled your MacBook pro's ability to send video feed through its USB ports, which is why Displaylink units are now unable to send video connection to multiple other displays. As such, you will need to find a unit that uses your Thunderbolt 2 or 3 ports for its input if you want an immediate solution. Unfortunately, these are typically much more expensive that the USB 3.0 input devices, which is why these Displaylink versions are so popular, and thus leading to so much backlash towards Displaylink.
P.S. F**k you DisplayLink

Dear DisplayLink macOS fixers,
I, like many others, are anxiously awaiting the fix to allow for restored functionally of mirror/extended mode for macOS users. I currently utilize 4 screens, as I am composing orchestral scores and need the increased landscape. My work flow is really curbed now while using clone mode. Please update us soon. Thank you! -
