Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews
The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.
Dear DisplayLink macOS users,
We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.
Driver 5.0.1: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1257
If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004
Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301
Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. An FAQ details how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724
Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.
We thank you for your feedback on DisplayLink products that helps us further improve our product offering.
Kind regards,
Alban

Eamon, I read all of your posts, and while your proclamation about working at a bank and having a production company will have my crew laughing for years to come, I found your rant very offensive as well. You literally called most of us on here idiots, so if you do not mind, your advice will be ignored by myself and most I am sure.
And being a major geek/nerd myself I have no animosity towards them, only people who feel they know it all... like yourself.
And really, if you are not using displaylink or care that it no longer work, why are you still coming here? I want my 3rd monitor back so I am coming here to see if a fix has been posted. Other than stroking your ego, what is the point? And the guy I called out by name on Apple is a KNOWN JERK so either you are him or a part of his crew maybe?

Roy: nice contribution but you seem to have issue with nerds and geeks bro. calm down on that language, i find it offensive as not all nerds and geeks are stereotypical. Some own facebook or Microsoft or **apple** and are way cooler in their yachts while you condemn them with a name because they have a much higher gauge for success than the normal.
Geek, nerd, not needed. if the guy is a jerk then make it a singular attack.

Can I receive a refund for the DisplayLink hub since it is useless now with the Macbook Pro OS 10.13.4??

Ok, this has been going on for too long, Crippling to IT shops using Macs and depending on extended displays for development, ops, etc. Almost a month since last update?

I've had a ViewSonic monitor connected to my MacBook Pro for several years using a DB15 to Thunderbolt connector. It's been working fine using the Display function from the System preferences. Nothing fancy just plug and play ... that is until the upgrade to MacOS 10.13.4.
I was thinking of upgrading to a newer MacBook ... but I'm going to wait till this gets resolved. I'm too used to the extra real estate a second display provides, and this is certainly a show stopper for me.

Yeah, I had never posted on Apple forums before. My god, people are hostile to any complaint about the hardware or software!

I have utter contempt for the amount of ignorance I'm reading. Seriously people it's like some educationally subnormal people leaving comments. I think Anon hits the nail on its head with his post on April 27, 2018 2:33 AM .
Also some very good contributions from (Make displaylink great again, Kee Hinckley) to name a few.
What planet are you other idiots coming from, ooh Apple released the update 2 months etc... can you even write a line of code. Shut up, you have no idea how development works. This shit happens every so often. OS's change and sometimes there're protocols which become obsolete and thus means manufacturers have to either appease the said software company to deprecate rather than obliterate which is what apple did.
It's not just DL that is affected you idiots, DL uses a protocol called MST which unfortunately is no longer supported by any MacOS prior to 10.13.4.
Clark has made some very positive comments prior to leaving DL behind checkout his steps on how to downgrade to 10.13.3 via time machine and if you do not have time machine follow my instructions at the bottom of this link ( https://support.displaylink.com/users/775201963-eamon-s ). majority of people have already downgraded awaiting the release of a suitable candidate from Apple to resolve the issue.
I've also provided more advice in my 2nd last post as how to get around the issue if you are stuck because your Apple Mac product to apple is now in pensionable age.
But seriously, stop the non-sense coming on here blasting DL like you have anything to help other users apart from spreading your negative and arrogant attitude. No one comes here to read that shit. They come for help, ways to assist, updates and a sense of a problem shared.
Damn what I thought is the geeks and nerds, who are now the kool ones, was f**king ridiculous but you guys with your negativity are doing my nut in. If you have nothing to contribute simple say "keep me in the loop" and leave it as that. If you need help on how to get back to work both Clark and I have provided ways to get back to work so you do not need to come here and fill it with your shitty comments.
Yes Apple wants you to go and buy a new mac you idiots. They consider your machines as OAPs so why the hell not make you go and spend more money at apple.
Thank you to all positive contributors, let's keep this forum a helpful place and eradicate these idiots who know nothing about nothing and share helpful information on how to cope during this depressing phase of our computing lives.

Frustrating that by the sounds of it we have to wait for an OS update which will come...sometime? But thanks for the update.
lemmyc, thank you for pointing to the Apple thread where people can "me too" to draw attention. EVERYONE WHO WANTS THIS ISSUE FIXED SHOULD DO THIS. We shouldn't let the link get off the first page here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/33335249#33335249
Roy: Don't hate on the nerds - there's plenty of us here as well fighting the good fight. :) (But wow, the LEVEL 10 WIZARDS who comment on every apple forum thread there are literally the worst.)
To everyone here complaining that displaylink isn't giving a new update every time they do a code commit: calm down, and do something constructive. Displaylink is posting an update every week. Yeah, it's not much, but clearly they're working on it. I've yet to see any public comment from Apple acknowledging the issue, much less what their plans are to fix or not fix. (If I'm wrong and Apple has commented, someone please post a link, thanks.)
(And a side note to the person who mentioned they have 500 Macs with Displaylink that aren't working after the update: LOL! If the product doesn't have the silly designed for Mac logo on it, then Apple doesn't care or check if it works. If your whole company updated the OS without testing, your IT department is bad at their job.)

Updated Mac OS to 10.13.4 and screen kept going into sleep mode. Have d/l "beta 4.3.2" but cloning main display, sucks and defeats purpose of having an extra screen for extension purposes.
PLEASE FIND A SOLUTION ASAP - Thanks in advance.

Anonymous: thank you for your post, which is an alternate to clone mode:
I've been suffering in clone mode with lagging mouse because it's chewing up CPU. Finally I realized I can just use a HDMI cable to connect my old dell monitor to my late 2013 macbook pro. The color isn't as good but it beats clone modeDisplayLink: Shame on you for leaving your customers hanging.....seriously?!

An example of the time waste of a response from the kind of people who spend time literally posting to every single question on the Apple Forums:
"Nobody here speaks for Apple. Apple isn't here. We have no idea what their policy is and it is against the terms of use here to speculate on Apple's policies.
If you want to complain about it, open a blog and whine away. If you want technical support in order to fix the problem, you'll have to talk to DisplayLink. They are the only ones who can fix it, if it is at all possible. That's what happens when you circumvent the OS in order to sell a product that you can't hope to ever maintain."

Too close an enquiry after blame in this debacle I consider a waste of moral energy with no practical purpose.
With the same imperfect information we all possess, I have doubts that DisplayLink can fix the problem on their own. But that is not categorical, only a personal doubt.
As to Apple, the attitude yesterday of an Apple Store manager with whom I spoke about a possible macOS solution to this issue, was one of bemused contempt tinged with exasperation, as if I had been a tiresome eight-year-old asking for sweets.
We all must form our opinions and make our own plans according to our knowledge, which remains, if we care to admit it, very imperfect. -
