Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews
The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.
Dear DisplayLink macOS users,
We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.
Driver 5.0.1: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1257
If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004
Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301
Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. An FAQ details how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724
Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.
We thank you for your feedback on DisplayLink products that helps us further improve our product offering.
Kind regards,
Alban

Donna what's your machine spec? Model? Year?
How many TB2 ports have you got?

Justinian World, we will never see eye to eye. For some reason, the context has slipped your mind here. I was asked what my job was and why I was defending DL. I was also accused of working for DL. Which I highlighted my occupation as that person wanted to know.
You carry on your way, I will carry on mine. I'm sorry you have to be the way you are. I have never had any bad intent nor have I came on here to distract folk with the wrong information.
You obviously think you are somewhat qualified to offer your insults. You did attack Clark and I am sorry but You clearly just want to attack anyone on here who wants to help and assist others, which in your opinion is the right thing for you.
I do not need to justify myself to you, I don't even need to defend myself to you.
Sometimes it's best to simply ignore you. Take care Justinian World, you are obviously an aggressive person and came here and on here to pick a fight, probably with DL at first then myself.
Just reading a comment doesn't mean anything without the context it was said in. Surely, you know that.
I won't be responding to you any further, But I will continue to assist those who need assistance while we wait;

Clark- I see you are using Startech. I have been using Startech but the update is only allowing for cloning to the external displays. Therefore this defeats my purpose of having an external display. I understand your comment to indicate yours is working - is it working i extended displays for you or just in cloning mode?

I cannot wait any longer for Display Link to get this updated. Is there any other options out there?

I agree; it is time to ditch DisplayLink. Does anyone have a recommendation?

In case anyone is wondering, this issue also affects the newer docks that have USB-C type connections. I'm currently using the following, https://diamondmm.com/product/ds6950-5k-ultra-docking-station/, on a 2017 Mac Book Pro and am having the same issue as everyone else. The dock works fine for everything other than the displays but I'm sure that's what everyone bought it for.
My suggestion is to ditch anything using DisplayLink and upgrade to a Thunderbolt 3 compliant dock

I see there is still a lot of hostility and no real workable solutions other than to stay put for now on an aging operating system... Looks like my new Mac will have to take advantage of a costly yet long term solution in the way of the eGFX Sonnet Radeon GX570 puck... Sad, really... This is the second time display link has let us down in the past couple of years... Time for a new myth, I guess. :(

Eamon is an idiot. At no time did I attack Clark in any way. Shows your level of reading comprehension is for zero. I add just as much as anyone. You are simply a token hire I am sure just to make the company you work for look tolerant.
You are a mean person in every way and have no business writing on any forum. Your rants are embarrassing. Please go and play with your cool setup and leave us alone!
Trust me, if you know it or have done it, so have I, so please stop saying I have no idea what I am talking about since there is no way you could possible know that at all.
You realize I pointed out your job since you used it to make a point in one of your insane rants. If you do not want people to talk about your lame job do not point it out! I am sure you are great at working at a bank (please you are a teller and you know it) and as a production person. Not sure one could be good at both however.
Anyone who is on this forum knows how development works. To think you offer any insight that any of us here to not have is laughable.
you are a joke an a token hire fraud.

DisplayLink hates you commented
Also these “solutions” you people are posting is just chopped up pieces of how to correctly rollback macOS. This site is beyond a lost cause and the “help” provided in this thread will simply hurt your productivity. For the record, Apple is not actively working with targus/dl in any direct capacity for this. Companies were aware their devices would become obsolete or worse (incompatible). DisplayLink chose to avoid investing the hard hard in their software and due to their own negligence have left thousands of paying customers without even a minimum viable product. It reads like a class action suit which probably is coming next month. Enjoy!

Steve if you get a new mac you won't need your DL device any longer. The protocol DL uses was obliterated in 10.13.4. But you can get USB-C to any other type of Peripheral.

I have installed the latest beta from Apple OS 10.13.5 Beta (17F45c) but the driver does not function anymore. I used this adapter to find a solution for getting over AppleGPUGate, which the discrete GPU (NVIDIA) is faulty and I cannot use any external display or use Powerpoint for presentation. Basically now my Macbook Pro 15" is useless by this apple update ! I have to say that in last 5 years I have not seen any major update or revolution in apple macbook pro 15 for professional users, it seems they are betraying their own principles and making the users experiences horrible. Hopefully some new companies can come up with new products appealing for pro users ....... it been frustrating.

I hate to reward Apple for this but I can't take it any longer and am going to have to buy a new Mac. Quick question for all of you though. If I purchase a new Mac with USB-C/TB3 ports can I add a USB3 hub or docking station that will allow me to still use the displaylink USB device for my monitors or is DisplayLink out even over USB-C?
I run 3 screens mostly for coding/text so resolution isn't as important and all are older VGA. -

Samuel, if you have a post usb3 lappy, simply use TB3/USB-C to extend. You should have no issues moving forward as you will and do not require DL tech. You're immune, consider yourself lucky dude, TB3/USB-c can extend as much as you want within reason. To enable better bandwidth by TB3/USB-C devices which you need to power on separately. But you're a lucky guy. Go forth and multiply mate.

Thanks for the update, I check here a couple of times per day. I have grown accustomed to having 4 screens and don't want to go back to one or two.

So... Does anyone know of a decent dock that DOES work with the latest OSX version (2017 macbook pro).
I currently have two HDMI adapters, this gets me two of my 3 screens back. Dont want to buy one of the many usb-c docks only to find out it's still displaylink and doesn't work.
Cheers.

Thunderbolt 2 and Thunderbolt3 will support DisplayPort and HDMI. I am looking at an H-P E2732q monitor, run from a Thunderbolt 2 port on my mid-2015 MacBook Pro, as I write this. It is lovely.
Unfortunately, my ASUS 169MB+ travel monitor will no longer work with anything I can do with the macOS. It did once, for about three weeks, from the time I bought it until the 10.13.4 update. There is no way I can make it work with anything running the macOS now. It's lovely with my Windows 10 computers. But I bought it to travel with my macOS laptop. How can I get my money back, now that I am well past 30 days? -

Please fix this. I am addicted to large displays for my laptop

Lian - Thunderbolt 2 and Thunderbolt 3 ports can be used for external displays. There are adapters for both DisplayPort and HDMI connections with multiple monitors. I have gone with the Startech Thunderbolt 3 to dual HMDI monitors. This works as advertised and is not a USB interface. I hope this helps.
