We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.

If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004

Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.

DisplayLink has worked for many months to maintain support for its users during the transition from macOS High Sierra to Mojave. While functionality such as Ethernet and audio or charging, where implemented, is unaffected on all releases, display connectivity has been limited on macOS releases 10.13.4, 10.13.5 and 10.13.6.

macOS 10.14 Mojave with DisplayLink driver v5.0.1 allows you to run up to 4 extended displays with now optional clamshell and mirror modes. Support for rotated displays is also improved.
DisplayLink driver v5.0.1 is applicable to macOS 10.14 only.

Should you experience black extended display(s) with only mouse cursor on 10.14. We recommend you use macOS 10.14.2 Beta 1 or newer. Developers/users with access to Apple’s fifth developer preview of 10.14 Mojave, released on 30th July, will see full support has now been restored for multiple extended DisplayLink displays where DisplayLink driver v4.3 beta 5 (http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?d=175) is installed. We are doing wide scale testing of v4.3 beta against this preview and will release a new driver upon general availability of 10.14.

The third developer preview of 10.14 has changed behaviour. Displays using DisplayLink technology will be present in System Preferences – Display. The displays can be activated, and the mouse is visible, but otherwise the displays are black. Should you have already installed that OS version, simply use DisplayLink driver v4.3 beta 6 (http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?d=180) to force the AirPlay interim whilst the work continues.
We do not recommend using that OS version for extended desktop changes as it brings no benefit compared to previous versions.
When a new version brings value, we will obviously notify you.

Our team continues to progress towards a solution which would both restore full extended display support for multiple DisplayLink displays in a future release of macOS and defend that functionality in the future. As daily users of the technology ourselves, we truly understand how disruptive this loss of functionality affecting the full ecosystem can be. Despite getting closer to tell more about roll out, we stay unable to provide a time-frame or a date for release of this solution.
We will keep providing updates to this message.

Extended displays continue to work as expected in macOS 10.13.3, and we can only recommend that you stay on macOS 10.13.3 or earlier if you require this feature and have not already updated. Functionality such as Ethernet and audio, where implemented, is unaffected.

Today, we released DisplayLink driver v4.3 beta 5 providing an interim solution with one extended USB display (720p or 1080p) on macOS 10.13.4, using Apple AirPlay®. All additional DisplayLink screens will be cloning the primary display.
DisplayLink driver v4.3 beta5 fixes the update mechanism, so you don’t have to uninstall the previous version before installing the new one. You no longer need to re-plug your USB device after rebooting, and, with the accessibility permission, AirPlay display will also automatically be reactivated when docking and after rebooting. I preferred delaying this message to postponing the delivery of these usability improvements you asked for.

Next week, we will be releasing DisplayLink driver v4.3 beta5. It will fix the update mechanism, so you don’t have to uninstall the previous version before installing the new one. We have now released DisplayLink driver v4.3 beta 4 providing an interim solution with one extended USB display (720p or 1080p) on macOS 10.13.4, using Apple AirPlay®. All additional DisplayLink screens will be cloning the primary display. This updated beta removes two main restrictions from last week’s v4.3 beta 3: Wi-Fi no longer needs to be enabled, and the driver is allowed access through the system firewall. When starting the machine, AirPlay requires you to re-plug the device after login.

Dear DisplayLink macOS users,

Our team has made some solid progress towards finding a solution which would restore extended display support in a future release of macOS. We are still unable to provide a timeframe or a date for release of this solution.
Meanwhile, we have been developing a partial workaround solution which would add one extended USB display (up to 1080p) on macOS 10.13.4. We are aiming to release a preview version of this driver in around 7 to 10 days. The precise date depends on how the solution performs under deeper and wider testing, and how long it takes to resolve remaining issues. We expect the driver to enable one extended 1080p screen, and one cloned screen connected to a DisplayLink device. There may be some other functional limitations.
The new alpha driver will be posted online as soon as possible.

Until then, DisplayLink driver 4.3 Beta 2 enables clone mode, but not extended mode displays in 10.13.4. Users who have already updated to 10.13.4 should install that driver. http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1131.

As previously advised to users, we are aware that installing macOS version 10.13.4 will cause DisplayLink connected displays to go blank after the OS update, with the latest DisplayLink driver release 4.1 installed.

Extended displays continue to work as expected in macOS 10.13.3 – this is why we recommend remaining on macOS 10.13.3 or earlier at this time. Functionality such as Ethernet and audio, where implemented, is unaffected on macOS update.

DisplayLink has committed significant resources to finding a way to restore extended mode display support in a future release of macOS.
We have made solid progress towards identifying a solution, however our team needs to complete more work before we can communicate a release plan for a driver that will restore extended mode displays.

In the meantime, DisplayLink driver 4.3 Beta 2 enables clone mode, but not extended mode displays in 10.13.4. Users who have already updated to 10.13.4 should install that driver. http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1131.

Installing macOS release 10.13.4 will cause DisplayLink connected displays to go blank after the OS upgrade when using our driver v4.1. (Functionality such as Ethernet and/or audio, where implemented, is unaffected.) Extended display support continues to work as expected in mac OS 10.13.3 and that is why we recommend you stay on 10.13.3 for now, if you have not already upgraded.

For users that have already upgraded to 10.13.4, we have released 4.3 Beta 2, which enables cloning of the native display on DisplayLink connected screens. We do not regard this as a long-term solution and will continue to pursue any paths to restore extended display support on macOS. The 4.3 Beta 2 release can be downloaded from http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1131.

As we use our own technology every day, we truly understand that this loss of functionality on the OS upgrade is very frustrating. We are continuing to explore with Apple routes to a solution. In the meantime, our teams are working hard analysing potential workarounds, which could enable some level of extended desktop functionality in 10.13.4. Finding a solution to this issue continues to have the highest priority within DisplayLink, and we are providing any support we can to our mac teams.

We use our own technology every day, so truly understand that this loss of functionality on the OS upgrade is very frustrating.
Finding a solution to this issue remains the highest business priority within DisplayLink.
Our teams are investigating several potential workarounds that could enable some level of extended desktop functionality to be restored in 10.13.4. In parallel, we are continuing to explore with Apple routes to a permanent and complete solution.

In the meantime, we have today released a second beta of our 4.3 driver. Installing this driver will enable cloning of the native display on DisplayLink connected screens. 4.3 Beta 2 improves the current workaround by preserving the primary display aspect ratio and allowing to select which screen is cloned in a multiple display setup. Our v4.3 driver can be downloaded from http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1131.
We do not regard this as a long term solution and will continue to work hard on finding a path to restore extended display support on macOS.

Unfortunately, at this stage, we are unable to give a dates for either a workaround or a complete solution. We are aware that installing macOS release Version 10.13.4 will cause DisplayLink connected displays to go blank after the OS upgrade, with the current DisplayLink driver [4.1] installed. Functionality such as Ethernet and audio, where implemented, is unaffected. We have alerted Apple to this issue and are working hard to find a resolution. These features continue to work as expected in 10.13.3.

In the meantime, we are releasing a new driver [4.3] that will enable clone mode, but not mirror or extended mode displays in 10.13.4. If you require mirror or extended mode displays, we recommend that you stay on macOS 10.13.3 at this time.

We understand that this loss of functionality on OS upgrade is potentially disruptive for our users and customers. Please be assured that this issue has the highest business priority in DisplayLink. We thank you for your patience and will provide an update on this situation, as soon as we have further information to share.

Hi, I think it is about time you give all of us a weekly update. I have left my email in order to receive notification. Nothing ever came through from you.

Good service is that you keep your customers in the loop. We understand Apple caused the problem through its new update and bad communication with its customers and suppliers.

Nevertheless we are your customers and what you can and should do in crisis communication is inform your customers. I am asking for a weekly update from you and some sort of plan in order to solve this issue so hat we are able to work with mutiple seperate screens again.

What exactly is your problem technically and what are your steps to solve it.? Are you aware that thousands of people around the globe rely on your devives professionally and we suffer in our work because of this problem.

It would be respectful to acknowledge this and provide more information than you do. How many people are working on this problem in your company? Is this something you can solve within this month of May or do we all need to look for new solutions?

I will look for alternatives if you don´t change your communication behaviour and start taking this seriously.

Display link sent me a response email about this FUBAR. Thank you for that, yes you should have tested on this upcoming Mac build/update to warn us. But I appreciate it nonetheless. And i'm not being sarcastic here i mean it, thanks.

I guess I'm just venting now.

I arrived in Mexico after a long flighht today to do a video presentation and editing session using a external USB monitor and also just purchased an external GPU for rendering video which i tested before the update and it worked fine since i need the fast render times while i work with a client on my 2015 Macbook. Lets just say my Macbook "Pro" definitely made me look like an amateur. Thanks Apple! But i'm sure the fanboys will be fine with just checking their email.

If I could only have one wish it would be at least one of these

1. That Windows didn't spy on us so i could feel comfortable using it knowing that big brother wasn't spying. Yes I know you can "deactivate this" but we all know that isn't really true, sorry, it just isn't.

2. I wish Windows could be at least Unix based so i didn't have to jump onto an Apple machine just to code on the "metal". Yeah i know there are other Linux based OS out there which i do use daily but lets be honest for those of us that have spent years on Photoshop and Premier pro. They are just better than GIMP and Kdenlive I use those too don't get me wrong but they just don't cut it for professional work... just quick edits and wedding videos. Yeah there are ways to make windows terminal Unix like but they are buggy and just add an extra layer of issues.

3. And don't even get me started on windows 10 "Auto Update" because yeah i really need you constantly bug me or restart my system in the middle of a work project.

4. I wish Mac actually cared about it's pro users because lets be honest they don't. They care about the people that check facebook and write emails. I get it, that's most people. But please stop pretending that you care cause you don't, if you did you wouldn't have killed my USB monitor and my external thunderbolt 2 GPU access after they both were working just fine.

5. And don't even get my started on the 16gb Ram limit. Which means that i have to shut down every other app to use After Effects.

6.. Adobe please, please, bring your services to any Linux distro, Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSuse, you choose, I won't complain i promise. If you do i promise there will be tons of people that will use it, that is literally the only reason i still have to travel with two laptops. And please don't even bring up dual booting because it breaks with every Mac update.

I just can't wrap my head around the fact i have to choose between a company that hates people that do actual use there products for real work or a company that spies and sells my information. Or go with Linux which means i can code but i can't do any serious video editing.

Can't wait till the guy at customs asks me why I have three laptops!

Martin, I just bought something similar yesterday and I am not back to having both monitors working in Extended mode. I had to use something different for one monitor so I could also plug in my laptop, but the end result is the same ... I am back to normal operation! No thanks to Apple or Displaylink...

With extended desktop you mean 1 desktop divided on 2 monitors? If it's up to 1080p it means we would just have a normal desktop but divided on 2 monitors. Not complaining, i really appreciate the effort but its still not good for me :(
