Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews
The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.
Dear DisplayLink macOS users,
We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.
Driver 5.0.1: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1257
If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004
Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301
Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. An FAQ details how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724
Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.
We thank you for your feedback on DisplayLink products that helps us further improve our product offering.
Kind regards,
Alban

Sean. I don't think that adapter will gain anything for you. I think this model macbook only supports two external monitors over either 2 miniDisplayport to HDMI adapters plugged in to thunderbolt, or 1 miniDisplayport to HDMI adapter, and one HDMI connection. For example if I plug 2 displayport mini adapters to thunderbolt while the HDMI port is connected, either one of the 2 displayports will stop or the HDMI will stop.
I would love to be wrong on this and be able to connect 3 monitors natively, but I am skeptical. That is the whole reason I have a DisplayLink adapter for monitor 3.

SwitchRes ... I sort of had the same question. I do no think so .... at least not in my setup.
I use one monitor via the DP and my second monitor via the USB port and the DisplayLink adapter. Prior to the OS patch it worked as a charm. I used my MBP in a 2 extended monitor setup.
Waiting patiently for the new driver .....

Does SwitchRes actually solve the problem? What does that application do?

I solved the problem by installing SwitchRes. It's a $20 program, but it's well worth it to get full resolution again.

John Morris, I am in the same situation as you (no USB-c on my old macbook) so I wonder if we can use USB -> USB c converter then USB c -> HDMI cable?

This is ridiculous. It's not easy to switch back to macOS 10.13.3 or earlier! Please fix! At least give us an update??

This is really crushing me at work. All the Windows users are frustrated with me disconnecting cables from our "universal" docking stations at our shared desks. I'm already marginalized as a Mac user at work, and this is not helping my case. The IT answer to my request for help on this was "Get a Windows machine, and all you problems will go away." Please get a fix out as soon as possible!

They said we are aware 4-5 times and it's been more than a month ,probably like a year if we're talking about the beta for OSX. This is ridiculous.

I love how this company tells you in one breath it's Apples fault yet they are working on a fix that they already have partially working. Again, had they have listened to Apple when the beta release came out and began their work then we would be a lot farther along. This company, as they have in the past, sat back and waited until it broke and still continue to let their suppliers sell products that don't work and did not keep their customers informed. Poor.

Martin and Eric, a displayport to HDMI adapter is *not* a fix for the issue. You are not considering all use cases. I have a macbook pro (mid 2014) that I use for development work. I use one monitory on hdmi, and another with a displayport to hdmi adapter. That is the maximum for external monitors via these means on this device. I use my DisplayLink adapter to get the 3rd monitor.
DisplayLink: I appreciate your efforts for a workaround, and look forward to your alpha drivers that will give my my 3rd monitor back.

Really has been a giant inconvenience and no word since April 6th is not leaving me reassured that this will be fixed anytime soon. Thanks for all the effort in trying to fix this so far! Appreciate it.

I've wasted enough time on this shoddy excuse for service, Almost as bad as the functionality dropping in the first place has been the appallingly low level of communication from DisplayLink.
I've splashed out and found a work around so I have two extended screens on my Macbook Pro (2016) again. It's using two USB C ports instead of the one before but at least I have my workspace back again!
Happy to join a class action lawsuit if one gets started. -
