Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews
The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.
Dear DisplayLink macOS users,
We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.
Driver 5.0.1: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1257
If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004
Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301
Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. An FAQ details how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724
Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.
We thank you for your feedback on DisplayLink products that helps us further improve our product offering.
Kind regards,
Alban

Looking forward to a solution. Right now I'm (once again) sit in front of 3 monitors, one of which is bricked. It's getting quite annoying.

@Marcel: That sounds like a very interesting workaround. What version of the driver were you using?

Hi all,
i have to replace nearly 450 useless wavlink docks now.... damn !
We can not wait any longer because otherwise we lose important projects.
If anybody has a good solution for a macbook pro with TB (4 usb c ports) , a dock with all in one would be best .
Please comment. -

All these workarounds to get two monitors working with MBP's are great but I think MBA users a let high and dry, we not able to plug in a second TB/miniDP to hdmi cable :(. If only MST worked over TB.
I have never understood clone mode, who wants to see the same screen on multiple monitors (I assume there is a use case for it), fairly pointless getting it to work imo. Also, DisplayLink driver 4.3 Beta 2 is killing the CPU on my MBA, fan is constantly spinning.
If only my work would allow me to go back to 10.13.3

Is it possible to bypass the driver altogether and connect the E1659Fwu monitor as a second monitor on a MacBook Air using a USB to Thunderbolt connector?

Good to know that developer team is aware of the problem with MacOS 10.13.4. However, we customers need more than just an awareness declaration. Have you guys defined a date to have this problem solved?

To my previous comment I should add that earlier today, I had my H-P 27sv monitor, my ASUS MB169+ USB monitor, and my built-in MBP monitor, all working nicely in extended mode under Windows 10.
They once did that under the macOS. -

FWIW, the latest Windows 10 Pro, version 1803 is also a bit impertinent with DisplayLink software. I have a mid-2015 MBP, w/1 TB SSD, divided equally between Windows and macOS installations. It's actually a very nice Windows machine. I don't use virtualization, just restart as needed. My little ASUS MB169+ USB travel monitor fails of course with 10.13.4. But it works nicely under Windows on the same machine. Yesterday, I updated Windows to the "April" update, version 1803. I then got the following notification: "DisplayLink Graphics Driver is no longer available. The app was removed from your PC because it doesn't work on this display." There was an attached link to a German MS website telling me that "Ihre App funktioniert nicht mit Windows 10." But the monitor still worked. Windows had replaced the DisplayLink driver with its generic PnP Monitor Driver. Here's a discussion of the issue: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware/windows-10-generic-monitor-drivers/87f58bdb-eb5a-4eee-bd13-dd8a2f08f317
I've not bothered to reenable the D/L driver, because the Windows one works perfectly well.
Two takeaways:
1. DisplayLink's Windows drivers may be a bit behind the curve, as well. But at least they still work, if necessary.
2. Windows run under BootCamp on Apple hardware still has full USB monitor functionality. -

Please develop a driver that works with the latest Mac OS - I am very disappointed that it has taken this long to fix and as a reseller I will find it very hard to recommend your products moving forward due to this!

I found a somewhat strange workaround...
I'm using a MacBook Pro 2016 with Touch Bar on 10.13.4 and a D6000 Dell dock for my external monitor. If I plug in the dock while my system is up and running - no external monitor. But if I close my notebook lid and let it go into standby, then (and not before) plug in the dock and wake the MacBook, my external monitor works just fine. This works every time for me, as long as the MacBook is in StandBy, Hibernatation or completely off, when I plug in the dock.
Perhaps this helps some people out here - really a bit frustrating working with only one monitor :) -

Is this for real? Still no solution? What are you doing?

Well I've connected both of my external monitors using the Thunderbolt 3 to Dual HMDI adapter and the native solution has been working flawlessly now for a week or so. I have backed up my system and am going to upgrade to 10.13.4 and see if the monitors stay alive. I suspect they will but I have been hesitating to upgrade until now. Maybe it's the Michelob Ultra I just downed but I'm feeling lucky. I will update this blog after the upgrade, hopefully sooner than later because it will probably take quite a while if I have to restore my system. Cheers!!!

Sorry folks on my comment below meant 10.13.4 as the upgrade in high sierra (not 13.3.4)

For what it's worth, I tried to connect my ipad to my macbookpro using idisplay. It didn't work. I then read a thread that Apples' 13.3.4 update has messed up more than display link. None of the ipad as second display apps like Duet, air display, or idisplay are working, and the thread states that rumors have it that Apple's added egpu support in 13.3.4 is the culprit. Whatever the issue is, it seems to be that 13.3.4 is the real source of all the issues and the suggestion is that users complain to Apple via their online bug reporting to get this video issue prioritized in their bug fixes.
