Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews
The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.
Dear DisplayLink macOS users,
We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.
Driver 5.0.1: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1257
If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004
Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301
Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. An FAQ details how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724
Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.
We thank you for your feedback on DisplayLink products that helps us further improve our product offering.
Kind regards,
Alban

Still no joy, but some minor progress. At reboot I have no Airplay menu item, but I can get it to appear if I run this program in a terminal window:
/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/DisplayLink/airplay/airplay
It seems to recognise an external display but nothing shows on it. It stays black.
I can try adjusting Arrangement in the Displays preference window, but nothing actually shows on the monitor.
I don't think DisplayLinkUserAgent is running, and shouldn't these things just start up properly at boot? It's frustrating that it feels close to working but not quite there. Any suggestions?

It worked fine on my initial use, and then i closed my lid and unplugged the monitor. When I opened my lid it was like the poltergeist. The monitor was stuck in mirror mode on some ridiculous resolution. I had to undo / redo everything I did in the first place to get it to work for a second time. DisplayLink: try harder. If you're not working through the night on this, you're doing it wrong.

UPDATE: WORKING! I wrote in this discussion earlier that 4.3 Beta 3 08 May 2018 was working yesterday, but stopped working today.
To get it working again, I followed the instructions in Knowledge Base article whose link is posted above by Product Manager Alban Rampon, and listed again by me below:
http://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724
WARNING: Before I could get the system to ask for permission to use the DisplayLinkUserAgent, I had to click the lock to make changes, delete the DisplayLinkUserAgent (by unchecking its chekbox, then using the minus button to delete).
Then I restarted and followed the steps in the knowledge base article...
...and I'm working again, with 3 separate-screened displays, most importantly, the Acer that uses DisplayLink USB its own separate display (and I learned that, in the Displays Status Menu, upper right, that the item "Use As Separate Display" (for DisplayLink exists.)

We are not interested in apology sir. I am a nightly news foreign correspondent in the USA and this issue with the monitor is causing me horrible delays. it 's days now that the monitor is black because my mac updated to the .4 high sierra. A company like yours should have already fixed and especially prevented it. Dear Alban you should provide a quick turn around for all the issues Display links and Asus it self cause to customers arounds the worlds. Shame on this company professionality.

Get it together DisplayLink. I am appalled with the lack of efficiency to solve this. My productivity has been totally hindered. We should be updated daily with the progress, if any, being made towards a solution. Seriously considering alternate manufacturers, even if a solution is found.

I'm seeing the same thing Ryan (May 09, 2018 13.29) is seeing: it worked find yesterday. I'm running Mac 10.13.4 iMac 21.5" (Late 2015). My Displaylink display is an Acer K242HL that was set to 720p.
I believe the version that was working was 4.3 Beta 3 06 May 2018. Then today it didn't work, my 3rd monitor is now mirroring (or is it cloning?). So I restarted, didn't help. Uninstalled, then installed 4.3 Beta 3 08 May 2018. Still the same, my DisplayLink connected 3rd monitor that was working yesterday as an independent 3rd display, is now mirroring/cloning my main monitor.

The AirPlay solution is a bit clunky when connecting and disconnecting the screen, but once it's up and running it's extremely good! I'd like to see this polished up a bit and kept as a permanent option for DisplayLink on Mac. It's much less laggy than the previous DisplayLink drivers I have used on Mac over the years.

Worked fine yesterday, now no longer works again. Left with just a blank screen on the display link-connected monitor in extended mode. What a joke...100% looking for a different manufacturer now. I'm past tired of waiting and of your company continuing to put out shotty solutions to a problem that should've NEVER occurred in the first place. F**k you DisplayLink.

I have a MacBook Air and an ASUS MB168B portable monitor that used to work just perfectly. Since updating to Mac 10.13.4 (a couple days ago), the monitor has been rendered useless. After Using the 4.3 b3 driver, the monitor works BUT the resolution is not clean and crisp as it was before.... I tried adjusting using the option key to no avail..... Lastly, it is a hassle to get it working each time I unplug it etc....
Clearly there is still no long term fix for this... what a let down.

is it still compatible with USB 2.0? I'm using my adapter on an old iMac and its not working anymore after updating and installing the new driver.

Where is the portrait display? When is this going to move out of beta and be fully functioning? Asus says this is Apple's fault. Apple says it's DisplayLink's Fault. DisplayLink hasn't blamed anyone (which I appreciate) but has also taken several months to fix this. The problem has existed since 10.13.4 beta in at least February 2018 from what I gather, indicating that DisplayLink has had nearly 3 months to develop a fix. And here we are with a beta that, while offering an improvement, doesn't include many of the features of a fully-functioning driver.

It seems stable now.
If you uninstalled DisplayLink before installing the beta 3, try that: uninstall again, then install DisplayLink 4.1, 4.3 beta 2 and 4.3 beta 3. Then restart.
I see a difference in AirPlay menu, that now shows "AirPlay on: DisplayLink" instead of "AirPlay on: DisplayLinkStop".
I have also the SwitchResX Daemon running, and can't say if this matter.

I am back, because encountering troubles with my Asus usb external display (MB 169B+).
I discovered that extended display functionality works only -->setting the external display as main display<-- (which is the default for me, so in my first try it worked). I hope this helps.
Unfortunately it works only for a while, switching to mirroring. I am able to set extended display again (always for a while) choosing "DisplayLinkStop" in AirPlay.
Perhaps troubles began after restarting my Mac, as someone reported.

Does anyone have a suggestion on what product I can purchase to replace this? Can't wait for a fix.

I have a macbook air. I followed the steps outlined previously to allow incoming connections from 'airplay', when the pop up appears. However, it still was not working for me. The only thing I could get it to do was mirror my primary display.
Here's how I got it to work:
System Preferences > Security & Privacy >Firewall Options... > right click 'airplay' > Show in finder > execute the 'airplay' file. After that, I was able to extend my display in 1080. -

It's been 3 months and still no solution to this problem. All we keep getting are worthless workarounds. DisplayLink really showing their incompetence on this issue. They should stop advertising themselves as a all in one solution because it's quite apparent that they don't know anything about Macs.
