Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews
The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.
Dear DisplayLink macOS users,
We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.
Driver 5.0.1: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1257
If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004
Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301
Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. An FAQ details how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724
Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.
We thank you for your feedback on DisplayLink products that helps us further improve our product offering.
Kind regards,
Alban

Is anything happening with this?
I only had my USB external monitor for about 3 weeks before it's been made completely redundant as it doesn't work!!!!
Are the Displaylink Devs taking time off at the moment???? -

Any chance display rotation will be fixed in beta 5?

Solution to above problem:
1) Purchase two HyperDrive mini-docks for MacBook Pro (available at Best Buy or other fine electronics retailers for $80-$100 each...).
2) Attach docks to either side of the MacBook Pro. No drivers needed.
3) Connect two external monitors, one to each dock, using the HDMI ports. If DisplayPort connectivity is required, purchase two HDMI to DisplayPort adapters and connect accordingly.
4) Pitch the overpriced, useless DisplayLink docking station in the garbage and move on with your life.
You're welcome.

Installed Beta 4.3 and initial reports are that it works for a single external HDMI monitor as Extended. Will update if I find any anomalies. Anyone having issues make sure you read the details in the install instructions.

The problem, it would seem to me, is not going to be dealt with by Apple at all. They have axed support for video via USB as of 10.13.4, and I really don't see that as being reversed anytime soon. The solution to use Airplay seemed quite good to start with, and the workaround to get vertical rotation for a screen working is to simply swop the roles of the video ports - so use the Thunderbolt to run vertical and the Airplay for horizontal... stating the obvious.
However, when I installed the Airplay beta, it only worked sporadically, meaning that it worked for a while, and then, not sure why, stopped working and reverted to clone-mode, which has always worked, yay!, but it did not support extended mode for any degree of extended time... lol. But not. I have dumped the idea for now - pity, because having the extra monitor has its uses. Perhaps I should just get a curved wide-screen. Seems to be quite a bit of choice these days... ? Then at least I know I will always have something that works... which would be nice.

Such a shame. We bought 9 Displaylink and now no-one works :( Too pity. Please find a solution fast (it's been 2 months now) or we, as many other, will go to you concurrency.
Thanks

Notice you've secretly slipped in a line regarding rotation:
"AirPlay does not support rotation. It will not be possible to rotate any display with this solution."
This isn't good enough. the desk setup at my company (1500+ users all with DisplayLink device) doesn't have enough desk room to have laptop, plus 2 monitors in landscape mode. -

Alban, the delay on getting this issue resolved has become completely unacceptable. My business relies on your equipment performing as advertised. Get a grip on your business. Apple will continue to put out OS updates. This shouldn't come as such a massive surprise and set back. You've lost a ton of customers for life through this debacle.

@Joe D , tnx man.
What is happening DisplayLink ? You are on vacation with our money???

This is such a problem. I've been unable to use my office space for weeks because it is designed around the extended screens and not having them is an extreme inconvenience. Some kind of timeline around the possible solution to this issue is critical so that I can decide if it's worthwhile to explore other systems.

@flick simpson, I have tested this with every beta that comes out with 10.13.5 and I can confirm IT'S STILL AN ISSUE! Apparently DisplayLink is still clueless on how to fix it.

The driver doesn't work as expected at all ...
#1 - You can not control the resolution and pixels, so the display on the extended monitor is horrible.
#2 - When you disconnect the USB cord, my laptop struggles to understand what is going on and will not revert back to the standards settings. So, if I am using the monitor with a program on it and disconnect that program is no where to be found - it thinks it's still attached to an extended monitor. Many issues, no one seems to be talking about them - only praising the update - which in fact doesn't work.

@Alban, What is the ETA for a fix? The workaround doesn't work for me after following the instructions, also uninstalling and installing many times and trying different combinations of things.

the airplay workaround has worked for me...somewhat. I can operate separate apps on separate monitors....not totally there but it's a great step going forward

Working great on Windows. Thanks to the DisplayLink team for a great product.
Finally had an excuse to switch my Macbook over to Windows. Only regret is buying a shit piece of overpriced hardware. Never again!

DisplayLink, give up. commented
Your workaround is escalated privileges to a helper app? Pretty sad skills. I can write a script to mirror screens in about 1 hour if I’m being lazy. 2 hours to make it RPC.
It begs the question, what exactly are your devs up to over there aside from crippling future sales margins?
We put your hardware away last May when you guys couldn’t figure out Apples last release. Some things don’t change, like the unreliable and destructive design patterns of this operations unit. Keep it up, we could all use some class action money to buy working products from reputable organizations.

To ignore the updated until it's fixed, run: softwareupdate --ignore "macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 Update"
When it's fixed, run: softwareupdate --reset-ignore
