Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews
The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.
Dear DisplayLink macOS users,
We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.
Driver 5.0.1: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1257
If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004
Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301
Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. An FAQ details how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724
Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.
We thank you for your feedback on DisplayLink products that helps us further improve our product offering.
Kind regards,
Alban

v4.3 beta4 doesn't work for me (maybe i did it wrong, but your instructions are quite basic).
when will you release v4.3 beta5? -
stvmacwoes commented
@Natalie B - I also had that problem. I could get Airplay to show up if I manually ran some scripts in the /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/DisplayLink folder but even then I wasn't able to get the display to show anything. I didn't like having to manually futz with it to even get Airplay going though. That felt wrong. I will try again if/when beta 5 comes out. If that doesn't work, I'll just abandon and go with a usb-c dongle to at least get one external display working.

I follow the install instructions to the letter. Why can’t I get an AirPlay icon in my tray???

Please update us with news about new MacOs 10.13.5, did you test it with beta versions? Some people claim that your workaround didn't work in MOs beta updates...many people will update because corporate security and I am sure that you don't want to have riot on your hands (again)

Thank you very much, dear display link team for your "workaround" in the enormous challenges with MAC OS 10.13.4 software.
Unfortunately the extended mode only works on one monitor. However, since we have two external monitors connected to our MACs as standard, we can currently only operate one.
Is there any chance that you will offer a solution or do we have to look for alternatives to display link?
What do Apple have to say about this problem? -
Markku Hänninen commented
You should maybe post bit more detailed post about the issue and the workaround you are planning/creating.

Can the release of DisplayLink driver v4.3 beta5 for OSX 10.13.4 does screen extend but not screen mirroring ?

So does this mean we're back to square 1 with Apple's OS update this morning?

this is a very disappointing turn of events -- completely unprofessional. I cannot and will not put off OS upgrades so I can use my DisplayLink device, because that has implications for all my other apps. This is just sloppy on DisplayLink's part. So now I have this useless brick that I paid good money for... I guess I will go out and get a Thunderbolt dock and do it properly. VERY disappointed. You guys used to be out ahead of things... if there is a class action suit I'm in too!

absolutely unprofessional ... 3 months already and no solution for macOs Sierra... when (if) you'll find a solution probably a new macOs will be released and we start all over again... not worth to buy your products if you cannot follow the world

My company uses a significant number of Macs which depend upon DisplayLink devices.
We *really need* a fix - multiple HDMI plugins and the like are suboptimal and don't allow some of the configurations needed for our work. It's the end of May...when will there be a definitive answer to a fix (or product abandonment)?

Thanks for this update! I'm finally back to my preferred set up on my MacBook Air; Mac is in my Henge Dock, with 2 extended monitors. I use an app called InsomniaX that disables the mac from going to sleep with the lid closed. (it would be stuck on mirroring mode when the lid closed) Obviously not a great longterm solution, but it'll work until it's fixed more permanently.

After installing the 4.3 beta 4 on High Sierra 10.13.4, AirPlaying to the DisplayLink worked for me. However, I was only able to use one of my monitors as another screen (the other one was mirroring). Unplugging the second monitor from the hardware and using the mini display port allowed me to workaround this and use 3 screens. I hope this helps someone else!

To the people saying it still doesn't work, keep fiddling with Airplay settings. It didn't work immediately for me either, but eventually got it extending my desktop at 1080p. (Monitor is 1440p, but 1080 is better than blank). You can tell running it through Airplay is a rather dirty hack; it's certainly fiddly and does weird things when un-docking. Think of it like connecting to a projector. It's better than nothing while we wait for DisplayLink to re-engineer their software to work around whatever interface Apple decided to drop in the latest version of Macos.

Another update: I have 10.13.5 beta 5 and tried all the different driver updates on here and THEY STILL DO NOT WORK. This shows that DL is stumped with this one and has inept programmers on payroll ripping them off for getting paid to do nothing.

@Leo, we've ALL been waiting since February for a fix so don't hold your breath or you'll die. These guys have NO CLUE AT ALL how to fix this. They tried to blame Apple but yeah, early on that was ok but after 2 months, IT'S NOW ALL ON THE BACK OF DISPLAYLINK FOR FAILING TO HIRE PROGRAMMERS WHO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING!

Perhaps offer a recall or blanket refund for those who have an affected device? My SD3500v is nothing more than a glorified and significantly-overpriced USB hub at the moment.

Shame on you Alban, you only give excuses and more excuses. What kind of business model is this ? DL know about this issue since February, next week we are in June. Four month waiting for a solution ? Do you really think this is acceptable ? Thanks God you are not a Doctor. All of your patients will be death by the time you make a diagnosis.

How do you get this to work on a mac, I installed the beta driver. Now i have a mirror of my second monitor instead of it extending as a secondary monitor. I am on a Mac. When will this be fixed?
