Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews
The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.
Dear DisplayLink macOS users,
We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.

If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004
Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301
Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. An FAQ details how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724
Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.
We thank you for your feedback on DisplayLink products that helps us further improve our product offering.
Kind regards,
Alban

@alban,
Thank you for the reply on this, we really appreciate the communication.
So what you are saying is full functionality (without airplay) should be retuning with a new version of display link driver and a newer update of macOS like 10.13.6 for example? (understanding that you can't give a time frame for this).
Thanks

A full extended display support solution cannot rely on AirPlay which has too many limitations for that.

Will the full extended display support solution you are working on work without airplay and return to the same functionality?
Please communicate this with us.

This fix will work until next week when Apple release the 10.13.5 version. This is incredible, waiting 4 month for an update that works for less than a week. Or DL will suggest again not upgrade the OS ?

Initially, beta 5 driver wasn't working for me - only clone mode working and airplay couldn't find displaylink - so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it again (probably because I was previously using beta 3) and now it works. Great that I don't need to replug the cable every time I boot up now!

It sounds like the ball is in Apples court now. They need to add some support back into their USB ports for display over USB. Maybe some detection of an external GPU (based on driver or similar) for "fall back" onto display over USB. *Hopefully* they have communicated their fix to DisplayLink so the drivers can be created synchronously, rather than waiting until there is a release. My hope is the next (or one after) beta of OSX will contain such efforts and we can start to see an actual fix and not work-around patches.

As a loyal and heavy user of display link technologies for many years - this is very disappointing.
You are at risk of losing the entire apple customer base.I'm personally considering moving back to windows because the number one interface to a computer are the screens.
What is the technical issue that prevents this from working?
Does apple even respond as to why this is something that is now so horribly broken?

I appreciate the difficult place the DisplayLink team is in with the OSX updates. Thank you for your efforts. It's a shame it's not easier and resolving my specific woes.
While this fix seems to work fine on my MacBook Air, it does not work on my mid-2010 iMac that is still in great condition. So, I'm giving up on DisplayLink for my desktop while the airplay solution is the only path to success. There's no reason for me to buy a new iMac yet.
Therefore, I've ordered a Matrox Dualhead2Go Digital ME for $270CAD directly from their outdated ecomm site: www.ShopMatrox.com. BTW, their customer support responds quickly. I've been assured it will work fine on mid-2010 Mac running OSX 10.13.4. TBA....I'll update how well it works when it arrives in a couple of days.

SEMI FIX - i downgraded my macbook pro to factory settings to v 10.12.6 ... all my screens work although only at 1080p and lower vs. 2k and 4k like the used to. 1080p is driving me nuts because on 32 inch curved monitors it all looks blurry and strains my eyes but better than nothing ...

Still no luck with the installation of the new beta version. My Airplay continues to look for my Apple TV and won't initiate with my displaylink adapter. Every once and a while the 2nd monitor will come on but it stays black and I can move my cursor off the screen to it, but nothing shows... frustrating.

the display link is not being recognized by airplay. I've followed the steps correctly and the display link has permission to control computer in the privacy settings.

I also appreciate your efforts. Beta 5 works fine, just an issue, the screen still very blurred, how to fix it?
