Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews
The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.
Dear DisplayLink macOS users,
We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.
Driver 5.0.1: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1257
If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004
Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301
Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. An FAQ details how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724
Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.
We thank you for your feedback on DisplayLink products that helps us further improve our product offering.
Kind regards,
Alban

@Steve H. Good point. Because my "third monitor" is my iMac, I hadn't really given much thought to the three screen solution by Matrox. That lower output of 50Hz makes sense. I was in your shoes, and almost ponied up for a new iMac, but found this alternative which saved me roughly $3K. I'll take it ;) Apple gets enough of my money elsewhere. No need to spend when this particular product still works perfectly well.
They're (Apple) real scumbags for putting us and DisplayLink in this position. Unless, all of ths is due to the intel firmware vulnerability ... but, who knows. All I know is the Matrox solution works.. for now. I'm back on three monitors, and humming along. Good luck man!

Thanks Michael. I just talked to Matrox and they were very helpful. My setup had 3 monitors with different resolutions on DisplayLink with my Mac docked and a bluetooth mouse/keyboard attached. Although their might be better options through Matrox with a newer Mac (I'm on a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012), there are some limits on your resolution. Firstly, all monitors must be at the same resolution. For their Dual monitor solution you can get up to 1920x1080 @ 60Hz but for the triple monitor solution it will only output at 50Hz which is incompatible with most monitors. Also, there is no capability to output to VGA. I talked to them and an adapter will not work as Matrox only outputs a digital signal. I'm probably going to end up buying two large monitors and the Matrox Dual Head Digital ME. I am absolutely fed up with waiting on a solution here.

I thought we were waiting for 10.13.5 for this to work again?? Very disappointing that there has been no progress.

Are you seriously not even going to give a response with projected eta on a fix or potential for a refund on a now dysfunctional product? It has been a very long time now with very little information regarding the actual status of the potential to fix this problem. Should we start shopping elsewhere or what?
Please respond "Alban" or anyone else who is working for Displaylink as we need to get on with the work that having multiple displays allows us to do.
Thanks

Successful alternative solution: I received the Matrox Dualhead2Go Digital ME, and it works great. The only annoying part of this solution is that it takes your peripheral monitors and makes one wiiiiiiide extended peripheral monitor (separate from main iMac monitor).
So, in my case, I have two peripheral monitors that originally flanked my iMac. With the Matrox solution, I had to move the two monitors together to the side of my iMac versus flanking my iMac on each side. While they're not individual / autonomous screens, the two monitors act as one wide secondary extension screen. It's a plug & play solution (no firmware download required), and it allows me to finally have various work items on each screen. It's not perfect, but it works beautifully.. Total CAD $270.54 They also have a three screen extension option.
I suggest ordering this directly from www.ShopMatrox.com The site is a little dated. But, it works ;) And, feedback / tech support are lightning fast.
Good luck!

Simple question, let me ask it again. Can i update to 10.13.5 and use the Beta 5 driver for a single extended screen that i have today on 10.13.4?

'solid progress towards finding a solution which would restore full extended display support for multiple DisplayLink displays ' - how to make it work for 2 or more extended monitors? I can only find one monitor and to use as extended screens, but for others, the view is in clone mode. :/

"Seems to me like the Airplay is unstable and intermittently cuts out into mirror or black screen mode, especially upon restarts or shutdowns." --actually you are experiencing how displaylink acts prior to the driver loading (clone mode). It never will appear right away upon boot or plugging in. There is a delay now.... it also will/may "blink" as the Airplay destination is assigned.....

Updated to 10.13.5 and got it to function intermittently with Beta 5, same as 10.13.4.
Not sure if anybody else experiences this, but I use 2 external monitors along with my Macbook Air display. When I first installed and plugged in nothing was working, got black screen and Airplay would say "Cannot Connect to DisplayLink." Left it for a day running just 1 monitor, and the next day plugged in the DisplayLink adapter again and it worked fine.
Seems to me like the Airplay is unstable and intermittently cuts out into mirror or black screen mode, especially upon restarts or shutdowns. If it starts extending and I don't change the configuration or power cycle the system it will stay working.
I've recommended to my company to switch to Macbook Pros to avoid this problem altogether. DisplayLink should really consider offering refunds for the products before this becomes a class-action PR nightmare.

Does anyone in DL is working with this issue ?
Come on be honest !
5 months and no solution ?
I can believe it. Seems to me they have no intentions to fix it. How come that a company that sells millions of proprietary chips per year, can't come with a solution in 180 days !
Even worst, a new update came (10.13.5) and the 'beta solution' is not working any more.
What they have there, a bunch of clowns playing with codes ? -

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015), running 10.13.4 (10.13.5 is either no available for the hardware or blocked by my employer), DisplayLink driver 4.3.124 (a.k.a. beta5), 1 Apple Thunderbolt display, 1 Lenovo T2424 connected via HDMI, 1 Lenovo T2424 connected via USB to DVI adaptor (vendor unknown).
DisplayLink does not work at all. Attempt to enable AirPlay in Display Preferences always produces "Failed to connect to DisplayLink" alert box. The single 1080p DisplayLink connected monitor remains blank.
Needles to say the same setup worked with 10.13.3 (and older).
Moreover, despite no video output to any DisplayLink connected display (again, I have only 1), the DisplayLinkManager process uses 100% CPU when running Zoom videoconf (with output to the Apple Thunderbolt display).

So what is the possible workaround for Macs that don't have AirPlay compatibility with any drivers under 10.13.5?

beta 5 works for me using airplay! I have a mid 2012 MacBook pro running macos 10.13.5. My dock is a Kensington sd3500v (from 2013)

I somehow have gotten this working using 10.13.5 with 3 external displays and my macbook pro display.
I downloaded beta 5 drivers and using a USB-C Dock, I plugged in 2 of my monitors. Once I got those plugged in they instantly worked in extended mode. Then for my 3rd monitor, I used a HDMI to USB-C. The airplay then kicked in and my monitors are all in extended mode.
2 issues I ran into.
1. The airplay stopped working after I let the computer go to sleep overnight. I had to do a restart with everything unplugged. Once macOS loaded, I plugged in the dock and waited for that to load. Once loaded, I plugged in my USB-C monitor and once that loaded everything was working correctly again.
2. I have a plugable USB-C dock that "supports" 3 monitors. 2 HDMI and 1 DVI. I couldn't get the DVI in the dock to work, I had to use the HDMI to USB-C to get the 3rd monitor to work. -

Just making sure I am following the conversation correctly. I still need to hold off on letting my MAC update to even 10.13.5? Otherwise I lose the ability to use multiple displays in Extended mode?
