Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews

The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.

We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.

If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004

Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301

Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.

    I disconnected DisplayLink, uninstalled the DisplayLink driver, rebooted, installed DisplayLink driver (4.3 Beta 5), rebooted, connected DisplayLink. The DisplayLink LCD is a mirror of my primary LCD even though "Use as Separate Display" is set. I verified security settings are correct per instructions.

    MacMini (latest hardware and OS release). Working displays on HDMI and Thunderbolt (incorrectly stated DisplayLink) earlier.

    I installed the latest driver on my MacMini today (MacOS 10.13.5). I can enable AirPlay to the DisplayLink. I clicked on "Use as Separate Display" but the DisplayLink LCD is still a mirror of my primary display. I have two other displays. One is on HDMI, the other is on DisplayPort. The DisplayLink is my 3rd display.

    As a developer of software drivers for MACs, one would expect that DisplayLink to be aware of the impact of the .4 and .5 MAC fixes. Seems to me that someone at DL was asleep at the wheel. Furthermore, since you have been unable to fix this problem for several weeks, I assume that MAC changes were pretty significant. All the more reason you should have been alert for this change. I take my "asleep at wheel" comment back - DL was dead at the wheel.

    I had the problem where airplay could not connect to display link running 10.13.4.
    It was solved by turning off the firewall and restarting (you have to leave the firewall off).
    Unacceptable that you have to compromise the security like this to get it to work but as the thunderbolt ports on my iMac are fried it’s my only option.

    I love the person threatening legal action but doesn't have the guts to use a real name. It is a pain in the butt, but remember APPLE'S UPDATE broke it. I am glad displaylink is trying to fix and working for software companies understand sometimes it is harder since you have to work with the other company too who are usually less worried about your software.

    I had to get other cables for monitors and waiting for an update on this. Hopefully soon...

    I re-installed High Sierra and stayed away from 10.13.4 and things were working again. This morning I restarted my Mac and did not realize 10.13.5 was part of the update. I only hid/ignored the 10.13.4 update :(

    So I installed the beta 5 displaylink drivers. After restarts I kept getting "Could not connect to displaylink" errors. After realizing our enterprise firewall settings might've been getting in the way of Airplay, I disabled firewall from cmd line and it worked.

    Fiddling around further, I now have 2 additional monitors working as extended mode along with the macbook's display in this configuration:

    - Monitor 1 via Displaylink adapter -> macbook usb3 port
    - Monitor 2 via HDMI cable -> macbook hdmi port

    Selected 'use as separate display' from Airplay dropdown in menubar.

    I suppose I could also get Monitor 3 working as extended via Thunderbolt 2 ports, if I had a mini displayport adapter.

    I have been having the issue that the monitor will only mirror and the "airplay could not connect to device" error message.
    This is partially fixed by turning off the firewall and restarting.
    Running macOS 10.13.4.

    Hope this helps some of you.
    Still unacceptable that this work around is required.

    How many weeks can you make "solid progress" on something with no real result... It's not feasible to sit on 10.13.3 forever due to security updates and product issues. We get that Apple broke not only your product but others' as well, but this could have been mitigated/warned ahead of time with testing of Apple's beta OS.

    Repeating the same product update over and over doesn't give us any confidence that you're actually making "solid progress" on restoring dual monitor functionality.

    Hey All, hope this helps:

    I installed the beta driver mentioned above and restarted. At this point, your third monitor should kick on (my second is using HDMI). By default, my third monitor tried to mirror my laptop screen. I had to go into settings, allow 'Display link' in the privacy tab and the accessibility tab. After this, I had to rearrange my desktops. I then had to turn on Air Play. After this my third monitor froze. I turned off that monitor and when i turned it back on, all are working now at what appears to be the correct resolution. I hope this helps.

    It's now not more than a expensive USB-C DOC . I bought 2 USB-C to HDMI Adapter from Apple. Never ever Display Link anymore.

    I'm on 10.13.5 on a 2017 macbook pro.

    AirPlay Display stopped working with DisplayLink.

    I uninstalled and reinstalled, updated the Accessibility allowance under Privacy tab in Security & Privacy, and DisplayLink Airplay still not working.

    Turns out, there is one more privacy setting to update.

    Under general tab, you'll see there is an additional section that you have to allow.

    The time has become long and momentum strong enough for a class action suit.

    The wrongdoing of your company and the negligence towards said consumers justifies the aforementioned.

    It seems any negative post is taken down, which is being recorded for later questioning.

    We ask you to formally request your money back. Any non-compliance will result in the action being moved along.

    We have been carefully monitoring your beta releases since May 2017. It appears there is yet to be any substantial minimum viable product provided to those who had it revoked. (Revocation by deprecation is subject to prosecution all the same).

    We have all, as a community asked for a solid fix. It’s become clear you lack the power and depth to fix your problematic devices.

    Without a definitive date of completion to rectify this and other issues of compatibility we ask you to address your users as to what actions have caused the problem, steps taken and those yet to be made.

    Gross negligence such as this over a period of time long enough for Apple to release 3 versions of macOS is downright unacceptable. If you cannot keep pace with the digital ecosystem we kindly ask that you leave it entirely and refund what’s rightfully owed to your customers.

    If this is taken down we will also be sending it to all your corporate addresses. So, game on.
