Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews
The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.
Dear DisplayLink macOS users,
We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.
Driver 5.0.1: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1257
If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004
Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301
Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. An FAQ details how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724
Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.
We thank you for your feedback on DisplayLink products that helps us further improve our product offering.
Kind regards,
Alban

This fix sucks, it's been months of nothing but crickets on their side, I call BS DisplayLink, you ought to be ashamed of yourselves, for your SUPER shotty, completely non-transparent customer support, and shady business practices. This technology was built on the backs of others previous hard work and hacked together in the first place, which is why you are having so much trouble fixing the issue now, and you know it. Should have been a simple fix, but it has been long and drawn out for months on end now and it's getting old. I hope someone hits you with a class-action lawsuit over this issue, and you get sued out of existence, because honestly that's what you deserve, and I'd gladly jump on board with anyone who did. There is no excuse for this level of incompetency at this level, and any company that proves this incompetent should be held accountable for their actions IMHO. Rant over, Thanks for listening.............Not......Ugh.

Which driver exacltly did you download? I'm on a MacBook Pro (17-inch, Late 2011), 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7, AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB + Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB and am wondering whether should give it a try as well as am now fed up using 1 out of 3 external monitors that used to work fine.
Cheers,

Guys ... I understand your frustration, but I downloaded that driver weeks ago and everything is working fine for me on an 2011 MBP with two 32inch LG screens attached. One via the DP and the other via USB/DisplayLink. Both screens are used as extended screens, so I have a 3 screen setup.
I am not associated in any shape or form with DisplayLink, just a user that bought the USB 3.0 DL device.
Hope this helps ......

I started out with a black screen as well. Did you set up your Airplay first before connecting the HDMI ?
You have to make sure the airplay is functioning first, Otherwise it seems the MAc gets confused what to use for airplay. Then you need to play around a bit for the right arrangement.

quick question, I've gotten airplay to connect but the monitor is still blacked out. I can see that my mouse will move over to that screen which leads me to be that somethings working however no picture.
Using the USB to VGA j5create adapter for the airplay monitor and Thunderbolt dock for HDMI to second monitor. Macbook display works fine and it shows that 3 monitors are realized.
I appreciate any assistance as this is truly a major PitA.
Any thoughts?

Make DL work with macOS 10.13.5 or make the workaround work.

Hi Anonymous,
My "Airplay" options showed DisplayLink as a choice. I have it connected with USB - so not wireless. I did not apply any fixes either. The monitor I use is a Dell, so not additional Apple hardware is involved.
I would say "plug and play" but for some reason the connection goes after the Mac going into its overnight semisleep mode :)
So I disconnect the HDMI and the USB, then reconnect the USB, go to my display settings, in Airplay box (bottom of that window) select DisplayLink, Select Scaled - and then the third option just before "more space".
When that monitor is alive, I reconnect the HDMI. and all is well.

Rick_NL did you see my question 6 comments down? I want to do what you did but need to know about airplay. Does airplay patch require video to go wirelessly because this is in a warehouse that data is tethered so no real "wifi" router for Airplay. Or hopefully, airplay just tells the cable how to send it through the wire? If so, then I buy a ubs adapter and data sent through cable....fixed. I just need to know if your v4.3 fix method uses the usb adapter cable for transmission or over wifi?
Thanks.

I bought a Macbook Pro 2015 - and already had a DisplayLink USB docker. Updated the OS to HS10.13.4 and hit all the problems everyone else is talking about. Not really any extended monitors.
Sleepless nights, anger spots, digital tantrums, and other options were not going to solve my lack of extended monitors. It is all in a non-business setup, so wasn't too worried. With a bit of playing around I now have 3 monitors running, that is including the Macbook screen itself.
The second monitor is connected using the suggested AirPlay for DisplayLink, unticked mirroring , applied scaling, and up it went. Then I plugged in my third monitor - but with a HDMI cable. It is all good and - for me - very workable.
If you do this make sure you do NOT have the HDMI connected already. For some reason it all goes wrong for the airplay then.
I'd still prefer to use both monitors through the Displaylink docking, mainly so I can add yet another screen and close the lid of the Macbook, but I can work with this.

It was time to upgrade my computer Win 7 and the kids suggested to go to Macbook Air, 2.2 Ghz, i7. I bought a AOC I1659FWUX to add second monitor. I bought it because it run off USB 3 which is on my new Macbook Air and after set up it starts up with AOC logo then goes blank. So I thought something was wrong with the 2nd monitor but had no problem with Win 7 or 8.
After driver download there is no arrangement tab in Displays which tells me the Mac is not seeing the 2nd display which makes me believe it's a DataLink driver problem for USB 3 support. My question is to all you Mac owners would a Thunderbolt to USB 3.0 adapter work for this application? Or is still a DL driver issue? -

It is important to note Apple has no duty to support bad hardware or any at all aside from their own.
However, if you manufacture a product for Apple devices and it fails to work, the burden is on DL in this case.
People saying Apple broke this sound dumb at best. Do the right thing, be transparent and let people know support is over for macOS.
A refund is most appreciated and not unwarranted. It might even save face in this unfortunate situation you find yourselves in.
Good luck in making things right. We’re all wat

This is starting to get humorous reading everyone get so angry. People keep complaining about how they're losing money, and can't work without monitors. Trust me, I get it. 4 months is a long time to wait. 2 months was too long. What I don't get is why don't you stop wasting all your good energy waiting for a fix that may never come, and buy a damn $30 thunderbolt adapter and call it done?
