Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews
The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.
Dear DisplayLink macOS users,
We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.
Driver 5.0.1: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1257
If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004
Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301
Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. An FAQ details how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724
Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.
We thank you for your feedback on DisplayLink products that helps us further improve our product offering.
Kind regards,
Alban

nice to see that you are looking at Mojave ahead of time. What's the status/outlook for 10.13.x users? Wait for 10.14 is not a good answer.

"Has there been any talk of a class action for providing a product while knowing the underlying OS was going to change and they wouldn't have a fix? "Agreed I think there should be a class action lawsuit against these idiots, they deserve everything they got coming to them.

What are these beta releases even doing different from the others? It’s the same exact workaround lol. You guys are something.

Displaylink 4.3 Beta 5 does not work with High Sierra 10.13.5. I have tried everything to resolve. I use a Lenovo Thinkpad hub which is Displaylink Certified so should be fine but isn't. My only option now is to use a HD enabled adaptor and bypass the hub with a HDMI cable direct to the monitor. really annoying.

@dowens81625:
You suggested exactly what I did. However, there are no Ubuntu 18.04 compatible DisplayLink drivers.
So basically just found out that I'm waiting for two driver releases now..

How can you get notified when this is fixed by Apple?

The airdisplay workaround doesn't work for vertical monitor configurations, please fix. Thank you

@dowens81625 your comments would be acceptable 6 MONTHS AGO when this started because back then it WAS Apple's fault. DisplayLink is now at fault. They have had all this time to fix it and cannot because of a poor programming team. It is the responsibility of DisplayLink to notify customers of the impending doom they would face because as a third party, they offer a product to Apple users so thus, it is their responsibility and Apple very well could have chosen to do this but they cannot be accountable for another company's programming team. DisplayLink apparently had NO Idea this was an issue because I see no evidence that they even tested with the Apple beta OS and they still arent testing it. I can also confirm that this STILL IS BROKEN in the coming 10.13.6 OS coming so buckle your seat belts. DL has no idea how to fix this. I am about to test it on Mojave so I'll update everyone then.
Again, at the beginning, blame could be put on Apple but after all this time, it is now DLs fault for not fixing it. Apple changed its API and it's the responsibility of the third party company to provide a fix, not Apple. Please understand how this process works. I am happy to help you with any issues you have since I have a workaround for my 5 monitor environment using 2 displaylink adapters and other dongles.

Hello,
It has been months now and you have not released a driver for extended desktop for Mac. I have purchased 25 docking stations for my employees and they are useless until you release the driver. What is the ETA? -

Emily, I have a bunch of dongles running my 5 monitors and I found that a specific sequence worked for me. I start my laptop with nothing plugged in, then I connect one dongle at a time and select to use it as an extended monitor from the airplay icon at the top near the clock, wait for the adjustment to work and then plug the next one in and repeat the sequence. This is critical to boot with nothing attached. It's the only way you can get multiple monitors to work when using one monitor with the display link unit. You have to give each monitor a moment to be an extended display. Let me know if you'd like further help by email by replying to this comment with my name in it. I'll try to help you since DisplayLink is a joke and has been of NO HELP to anyone suffering here. Been 6 months and counting...

Can someone help me figure out whether v4.3 beta 5 will work with my setup? I have mid-2012 MacBook Pro.
I have one external monitor directly connected via HDMI (simple Mini Display Port adapter), and I connect a second external monitor via HDMI using Startech's USB to HDMI and DVI adapter. Since only one external monitor is directly hooked up to the Startech adapter, would the new DisplayLink driver fix (v4.3 beta 5) still result in cloned screens on the two external monitors, or could I use them independently? Of course, I bought the Startech device just before the Apple update was released...I'd like to update my MBP but am not ready to give up two external monitors quite yet. Help please! -

The fact that your solution has been broken for months now, with no real fix, is ridiculous. I don't care about your platitudes, just fix the damn problem. We have hundreds of users who either can't apply OS updates or can't use the external displays across our enterprise. Unacceptable!

First I want to say thank you to Display Link for providing an excellent 3rd party dock for hardware, when the manufacture doesn't care enough about their customers to build, sell, and support their own solution.
Second this is in no part Display Links fault, Apple decided to push an update out to its customer base with out notifying customers of compatibility issues, or prompting users to inform them that hardware currently in use will no longer function properly if the Apple update is installed.
Third I would recommend this option to users who are unsatisfied with Apple's lack of support.
1. Format your Hard Drive
2. Install Ubuntu on your MBP or Mac Mini
3. Connect your Display Link Dock
4. Enjoy life. -

Hey y'all,
I'm on a MBP running macOS 10.13.5 and my display link device is *WORKING* if I use the *4.3 Beta 5*.
I had 4.3 Beta *4* from when I updated macOS 10.13.4 and these issues started. Beta *4* worked for me.
But now after updating to 10.13.5, I have to use Beta *5*.
If you haven't tried Beta *5* yet AND you're on macOS 10.13.5 then do that.
Be sure to UNINSTALL your previous display link software/driver before installing the new one.

Guys I found a solution, that at least has worked for me.
1. Download the newest temporary fix from displaylink to allow screen mirroring here (http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1169), install and reboot system. That should get you at least with screen mirroring working:
2. Install https://www.dropbox.com/s/ej4a1tvh5ii4x16/AirDisplayInstaller.zip?dl=0 this Air Display host package. once I did that the screen started working correctly. Even after reboot.
It appears whatever air display did fixed their software and seems to work for my USB AOC monitor as well.
Hope this helps someone else as well.

I have a iMac running 10.13.5. I installed the 4.3 Beta 5 and it worked for about 3 weeks. Yesterday, I came in and it was not working. Nothing changed on my set up at all since I used it last week.
What is the fix for this????

Hi, I have a 15" MacBook Pro running 10.13.5. I have followed all the steps with no luck. The Display just doesn't work. The Airplay option just don't appear in my menu bar. I have selected "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available"just FYI. What can I do to try fix that? I have uninstalled and re-installed etc.
It is really annoying I cannot use the product, it was very expensive. The $20 adaptor I have also purchased works with no problem...

I purchased two of these units back in December and they worked perfectly. Then about five or six months ago, one morning they stopped working. I wasted a good amount of time troubleshooting this issue, till I ultimately found this thread and learned the cause.
I uninstalled/rolled back the Apple update in order to keep using my monitors and these units.
Since that time, every day on my MacBook Pro I have needed to dismiss a prompt from Apple asking me to upgrade Mac OS. I've periodically checked back here on this thread and am disappointed to see that no meaningful action has been taken.
Surprises happen and we can't foresee them all. However, mirroring displays is likely not the reason people bought this hardware.
At the moment, I can still use my two DisplayLink units as long as I hold off updating Mac OS. However, at some point I'm sure I will need to install a new Apple update, which will render these units useless to me.
Everyone has been patient. We are coming up on half a year that this has been an issue.
Please provide:
1) A new driver that actually works
OR
2) New hardware that actually works (let us know where to ship the useless units and send pre-paid shipping labels)
OR
3) A refund (just let us know how to start the process)
Thanks for your tireless, as-yet invisible efforts to make this situation right. We all look forward to seeing meaningful action on your part.
