Let's make it part of the kernel

This isn't going to solve the issue like mainlining the driver will - having it supported out of the box would be the perfect solution.

10.13.6 only mirrors? Probably should note; I'm on an early 2013 MBP "13. When I first installed it, to my surprise, it worked right away. A few days later, and all I can do is mirror my screen. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Much needed. Also it would enforce proper versioning, rather than just "works on 19,18,16 and make sure to get the kernel version right"

How about making it part of the kernel?

Dear DisplayLink, four years later, what exactly still stopping you from implementing this idea?

I'm having a hard time getting my displaylink to work with my MAC Laptop. I downloaded drivers, but none are working.

It is a necessity in the world of automation and orchestration development. I installed the latest for ubuntu 19.04 and it is not working. Before the upgrade of 18.04 it was working fine.

I purchased a DisplayLink-enabled ASUS MB269B+ monitor a few years ago specifically with the intent for using it with Ubuntu laptops. During the time I've owned it (since about 2016), it has gone through periods of operability and inoperability depending on whether drivers were in step with Ubuntu versions. Sometimes after upgrading Ubuntu I would have to wait months or even a year before driver support would catch up.
As a software engineer, my DisplayLink portable monitor is a highly useful component to my development kit. Yet I'm hesitant to buy another DisplayLink product given the gaps in support. If we could have some commitment that the current LTS and the current non-LTS mainline Ubuntu releases would be supported, I believe we as a community would feel more comfortable embracing DisplayLink technology. Even among the issues being voted on in this thread, the "Make DisplayLink driver available for installation and update from Ubuntu repository" post has 4x more upvotes than the next closest issue. There is community desire and demand for this driver to be maintained current, in lock-step with Ubuntu releases.
