I have found that adjusting the mouse speed (Settings->Devices->Mouse & Touchpad->Mouse Speed) changes the degree of irritation from the defect. I find the least irritation from having it set to the highest (fastest) setting. That's partly because I have a TrackPoint for a mouse. When the setting is towards the middle, you can end up with a big ugly trail of mouse pointers.
