Add Adaptive Resolution Scaling for Better Performance on High-Resolution Displays
Hello DisplayLink Team and Community,
I’ve been using DisplayLink docking stations for a while now — mainly with Incredibox game 4K and ultrawide monitors — and while the experience is generally excellent, I’ve noticed performance drops during heavy workloads or when running multiple high-resolution displays.
I’d like to suggest adding a feature that allows adaptive resolution scaling or dynamic quality adjustment based on system load. This would automatically reduce the rendered resolution (or refresh rate) temporarily to maintain smooth performance and responsiveness, especially when the CPU or GPU is under heavy stress.
For instance, when multitasking between video editing, streaming, and presentations, even minor lags can disrupt the workflow. An optional adaptive mode could help users balance between visual quality and performance — similar to how some modern game engines or video players optimize on the fly.
Questions for the community:
Has anyone else experienced noticeable frame drops or lag when using multiple high-res displays via DisplayLink?
Would adaptive resolution scaling be a feature you’d use if implemented?
I believe this improvement could make DisplayLink devices even more versatile, especially for professionals who rely on consistent visual performance in dynamic workloads.
Thanks in advance for reading — I’d love to hear your thoughts or any potential workarounds others have found!
Best regards,
incredibox

My living room used to get unbearably hot in the afternoons, and the glare made it hard to enjoy natural light. Installing window films from https://www.tintfit.com/ solved the problem. They block harmful UV rays, reduce heat and glare, and maintain brightness, making the space cooler, more comfortable, and better protected without sacrificing style.

That’s a really smart suggestion, adaptive resolution scaling would make a huge difference for users who multitask with multiple high-res displays. I’ve experienced similar performance dips when juggling heavy workloads, so a feature like that could definitely help maintain smoother performance. By the way, if you’re ever looking into home upgrades or improvements in Winnipeg, https://phsrenovations.ca/ is a great place to check out. They make the renovation process simple and stress-free, just like how a smart adaptive mode could make DisplayLink setups more seamless.
