DisplayLink Manager doesn't detect my device
There are several reasons why DisplayLink Manager may not recognize the product. For successful device detection the following requirements must be met:
- An accessory must be a DisplaLink product.
It could sound surprising, but often users install DisplayLink Manager unnecessarily for products which are not DisplayLink-technology based. Only products based on DisplayLink chipsets are recognized by DisplayLink Manager. To verify whether your product is a DisplayLink product, follow to "Checking USB accessories" section. - The accessory must be physically connected, powered and allowed in macOS.
Unless device appears in the macOS, DisplayLink Manager is unable to establish a connection. If your DisplayLink product has stopped working, or has never worked, follow the steps below to try and diagnose if it is a hardware problem.
Checking USB accessories
If your device does not work, the first thing to check is that the DisplayLink device has been detected by macOS. This can be done by checking that the DisplayLink device appears in the System report. To do this:
- Choose "About this Mac" from the Apple menu on the top left corner of your main screen
- Click on "More Info..."
- On Lion and later: click on "System Report…"
- The System Information application will open
- Select the USB information from the Hardware category as shown in the screenshot:

- In the USB devices list, locate the DisplayLink device - you can always recognise it by Vendor ID (0x17e9)
- Unplug all cables from the device, then reconnect power (if needed) then the USB cable.
- Check the USB port with another device to make sure other devices are recognised.
- Check that the USB cable works with other devices.
- If using a USB bus powered device, make sure that the device is connected to an externally powered USB hub (the hub has a USB cable and a power supply connected to it). This will ensure that the device an receive enough power from the USB bus.
- Try the adapter on another computer if possible.
Make sure the accessory is allowed to connect.
Once an accessory is connected to MacBook a user consent is usually required before it starts working.

If it still does not appear in the system report then you should contact the original manufacturer, not DisplayLink, to discuss a hardware replacement of the product.
