What is the new auto-update feature?

Starting with DisplayLink Manager for macOS version 17.0, the application can automatically check for software updates and notify users when a newer version becomes available.

This helps ensure users can easily stay up to date with the latest features, improvements, and fixes.

How does automatic update checking work?

DisplayLink Manager periodically checks whether a newer version of the software is available.

If an update is found, a notification window is displayed showing:

• The available version number
• The currently installed version
• Release notes for the new version
• Options to install or skip the update

No.

When a new version is available, DisplayLink Manager notifies the user and provides the option to install the update. The update is not installed without user action.

What happens when a new version is available?

A notification is displayed informing the user that a newer version of DisplayLink Manager is available.

The notification includes two options:

• Install Update: Downloads and installs the new version.
• Skip This Version: Dismisses the notification and prevents the same version from being offered again automatically.

What does "Skip This Version" do?

Selecting Skip This Version tells DisplayLink Manager not to show automatic update notifications for that specific version again.

However, newer versions released after the skipped version will still be offered when they become available.

Can I still install a version that I previously skipped?

Yes.

A skipped version remains visible through the manual update check feature in the Settings tab.

Users can manually check for updates and choose to install a previously skipped version if it is still the latest available release.

How do I manually check for updates?

1. Open DisplayLink Manager.
2. Navigate to the Settings tab.
3. In the Updates section, click Check for Updates.

What happens if my software is already up to date?

If no newer version is available, DisplayLink Manager displays a confirmation message indicating that the installed version is current.

The dialog also shows the version that was checked and the version currently running on the system.

Do I need administrator privileges to check for updates?

No. Checking for updates does not require administrator privileges. Depending on your macOS configuration and installation method, administrator credentials may be required during installation of an update.

Does the auto-update feature collect personal information?

The update feature only checks for the availability of newer DisplayLink Manager releases. It does not require users to create an account or provide personal information to receive update notifications.
