Clamshell and rotation support on macOS with DisplayLink Manager

This article describes cases where clamshell mode (lid closed) and display rotations are currently working. As this is an area under current development, this article will be updated as new features get released.

Clamshell or lid closed mode

Clamshell mode (lid closed) is supported on computers using Apple M1 silicon with external power connected (e.g. Apple macbook power adapter or docking station with charging capability) on macOS Big Sur version 11.1 and later.
Clamshell mode on Intel-based macbooks was introduced in macOS 12 Monterey.

Display rotation

Rotation currently requires an Intel-based computer on macOS Big Sur 11.0 and later.
Display rotation is not yet available on computers using Apple M1 silicon. This feature is under development.
