Clamshell and rotation support on macOS with DisplayLink Manager
This article describes cases where clamshell mode (lid closed) and display rotations are currently working. As this is an area under current development, this article will be updated as new features get released.
Clamshell or lid closed mode
Clamshell mode (lid closed) is supported on computers using Apple M1 silicon with external power connected (e.g. Apple macbook power adapter or docking station with charging capability) on macOS Big Sur version 11.1 and later.
Clamshell mode on Intel-based macbooks was introduced in macOS 12 Monterey.
On Intel-based computer, display rotation is available from macOS Big Sur 11.0 onwards.
On Apple M1 silicon, display rotation requires DisplayLink Manager 1.6 Beta or newer, and macOS 12 Monterey.
