Netflix playing sound only, no picture
fix it

Hi all, I found an actual workaround that does not involve basically not using your displays...
Now this workaround is super lame, but it works.
Install parallels desktop, personally I installed windows 11. Running in coherence mode, it looks like a normal app. Not in a shell. But basically now I can confirm HBO Max and Netflix work, whereas before they didn't work at all. Black screen as you'd expect.

I have the same issue, thought I would try again am using upto date drivers and its still doing it.
Anyone have any ideas? -

This seems like a no-brainer feature and a fundamental limitation of the drivers. The suggested "workaround"--disconnect DisplayLink devices--is not really a workaround at all coming from the makers of DisplayLink. Would appreciate if you fix this issue such that I can view my own DRM-protected content on an external display.

I do understand how apple is not very developer friendly based on my personal experience when I was developing apps for MacOS, but at the very least it would be good if the DisplayLink team posts an update on the progress or whether this feature would ever be made available. Given that the new apple silicon based Macs have DisplayLink as the only solution for people with multi monitor setups I feel at the very least DisplayLink should clearly advertise what product people are buying so that its easier for them to make an informed decision. A KnowledgeBase article similar to the clamshell and screen rotation support explaining DisplayLink's stand on this issue would be well appreciated

There are multiple redundant asks that are all related that only seem to split votes. Basically, screen recording, Apple Watch unlock, HDCP, etc. If these were not split up, it'd be one of the top items. I'd suggest these all get merged somehow (admin?).

This is total dealbreaker for me. I'm genuinely shocked this isn't advertised when buying this product. I just found this out tonight and will need to return it.

Same problem for me.

The screen being recorded not only block HDCP, it also blocks the ability to unlock your Mac with your Apple Watch. This has got to be one of the worst implemented software packages ever.

As soon as the DisplayDriver driver is active all monitors attached to that Mac (the non-DisplayLink monitors too) can not playback DRM protected content. That really is very inconvenient.

Yes! I'm finding this with Catalina on Apple TV and Disney Plus,

Second on this. It is pretty annoying :(. Netflix in Safari isn't playing too. Chrome seems to not have that issue..

Apparently since MacOS Big Sur thinks the screen is being recorded while the displaylink app/driver is active, the DRM and HDCP features block movie playback on all monitors including the MacBook Pro’s built in display. Movie playback from the Apple TV app returns to normal upon deactivating/quitting the displaylink app. Of course video files (and YouTube) that are not DRMed play back fine.

This seams to be a normal issue with them. I went through 2 devices that uses their drivers & same issue. iTune videos & streaming from Hulu just get a black box.

I've also had the same problem - Upgrade Mac 2015 to 2017 and bought a USB-C dock for two external monitors.
Before installing Displaylink, my StarTech dock only supports on HDMI monitor, but iTunes content works no problem. Once I've installed Displaylink 10.14 both monitors are supported, but I cannot play iTunes contact on ANY screen - The two external monitors or the Macbook Pro's own screen.Tried SD content instead of HD - Same issue, but with SD content I can heard the audio, but there is no picture.
Both Monitors support HDCP, the Macbook AND the hardware of the dock, so the issue (as noted on other feedback) is DisplayLink drivers.
Please can you look into this ASAP!!?

Dear Alban,
Thanks for your answer.
Meanwhile I contacted various manufactures for USB-C docking stations and I directly asked them about HDCP-support for 4K at 60Hz.
So far Elgato, Sonnettech and Delock (I could only test 4k at 30Hz) confirmed HDCP support. It can be clearly done, as other products work as expected on macOS Mojave.
I have returned my currently broken Videoseven Docking Station and will replace it with a feature-complete one.
Kind Regards,
Andreas -
Dear Andreas,
Unlike you first post statement, the link you gave me is not for Thunderbolt 3 docking station at all.
Thunderbolt 3 is using a USB alternate mode, which means non-USB traffic over a USB-C *plug*.I don't know which chip SKU is in this particular product and this is a key element.
The product may be HDCP capable and compliant, but not offer that feature on that particular OS. This feature will require collaboration with the OS vendor. It is on the roadmap but not done on macOS, and that's why the suggestion is not set as "completed" or "declined". Most of the use case for universal docking has been office productivity. The product may also have no HDCP key and therefore incapable of ever decrypting content, by contractual requirement of DCP licensing. The product manufacturer must be a member of the body to be allowed to have chips with keys. Licensing also applies to companies who want to claim offering HDMI support.
If you create a support case with the DisplayLink logs (https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301), then we can look into if that product is HDCP capable or not as we'll get the chip SKU built-in. Videoseven doesn't claim their product offers HDCP, so to me, that is a hint that they don't support it.
HDCP is not just about software. -

@Alban
Thanks for your reply.
Though your statement is incorrect.
I just bought this docking station from Videoseven:
http://www.v7world.com/us/products/docking/universal-usb-c-with-power-delivery-dual-docking-station.htmlWhich clearly states in it's manual that the DisplayLink Driver needs to be installed.
Furthermore I reached out to Videoseven and they confirmed that HDCP isn't working.Unfortunately all manufactoures using white-label Hardware based upon DisplayLink are broken, this affects brands like Wavlink, Videosefen, i-Tec, etc.

@Andreas, a Thunderbolt 3 dock doesn't use DisplayLink technology.
