Works for me with the legacy driver 5.2.5 on a MacBook Pro 2017 with Catalina 10.15.7. I previously had the latest DisplayLink Manager installed, which caused a huge input lag. Also clamshell mode was not working, so i switched back to the old driver. I am using an i-tec USB 3.0/USB-C Docking Station 2x4K 85W and two external 4K displays (Samsung U28E590D) in 2560x1440 res.

Same here, dual 4K work great on my thinkpad via displaylink visiontek but almost unusable on my macpro and macbook. The macpro has dual GPUs but still Windowsserver and Displaylinkmanager using >30% CPU

Macbook Air M1 with 2x 4k 27" monitors; one over DisplayLink via Targus dock, using DisplayLink Manager 1.2.0 (Build 55.125).

Issues:

1. Can't set 2560x1440 HiDpi on DisplayLink monitor (only 2560x1440 (low resolution) shows up.

2. Still suffering the rotation bug that makes everything freeze/hang if the monitor over displaylink is rotated (direct connection monitor not affected).

Mostly concerned with #1, as I can run the vertical monitor directly from the M1 (but the second display still needs to be over the displaylink dock/hub).

Any updates on this? New Big Sur update already on the way and this still isnt fixed..

I have MBP with displaylink. Just did a fresh install of Big Sur on a new SSD. Keyboard input is very laggy. Sometimes works fine. Sometimes it's awful. I had been using displaylink with same USB3 unit and same MBP for years with other versions of MacOS and it was just fine. This is not usable. Going to downgrade to Catalina.

Same here, Targus Dock190 on Mac M1 is making external wireless usb mouse extremly laggy, when using 5 dollar dongle it performs perfect.......

I have 2x Samsung 28" 4K Monitors via Displayport cables on my Dell D6000 that is connected to my 2017 15-inch Macbook Pro . I experience a huge lag when working on the monitors but not when working just on the macbook screen. I have tried both display link managers 1.1 and 1.2. and I have this problem with both of them. With the last Display Link Drivers 5.2.5 and 5.2.4. the lag is gone BUT I can no longer use the scaled options from mac os (4 pictures to choose from that say "looks like 2560x1440") which make also 2560x1440 seem sharp. I just have a windows like menu with more options, especially if you open it with "alt" pressed BUT 2560x1440 is marked as (low resolution). I didn't have this problem with the display link managers BUT I prefer it to the unworkable lag problem!

I bought the "USB-C Universal Quad 4K (QV4K) Docking Station with 100W Power Delivery" ($500) and three 1440p displays ($1500) to find out my macbook-pro OS version (BigSur - 11.1) has unusable lag with DisplayLink... The mouse cursor is a jarring delay behind the inputs I give and swapping between application windows or workspaces has extreme tearing/stuttering.. looks like its running at about 5 FPS - this is on the recommended monitor resolution too

Really disappointing DisplayLink

Just got a DisplayLink this week and I'm having the same problem here. External monitors work fine when plugged directly into my Macbook Pro (either via DisplayPort or HDMI cables), but are super laggy (and not crisp resolution, despite what stats say) when I run them through the DisplayLink.

Glad to hear I'm not alone, but I'm considering just returning this DisplayLink, as it's unusable in its current state.

This is a HUGE issue, its basically unusable. Using big sur with 2 external 4k monitors. Makes it seem like my mac is crawling to get things done but its just on the external monitors. Go back to the macbook screen and theres no lag.

Same issue. MacMini with 16G, dual 4K monitors, and the whole thing runs slow. Removing the DisplayLink and using only a single monitor plugged directly into the Mini and the whole system is quick and responsive with the same apps running but without the DisplayLink driver.

Also, watching top I see that DisplayLink is sucking up huge amounts of CPU time.

I seem to be having the same issue. 3 external monitors, Big Sur, and display link. When using applications like photoshop and bridge my system becomes unresponsive and hangs. It doesn't seem to exhibit this behavior when using my laptop on another monitor (no displaylink device). I don't recall this being an issue on previous versions of macos.
