Beta macOS App: Clamshell / Lid Closed Mode
Beta Mac OS App driver does not allow me to operate on external monitors with the laptop closed. I had to uninstall the driver and reinstall the one from November to be able to work in clamshell mode. This is glitchy in the old driver, often freezing my computer. I was hoping to see this stabilize so I wouldn't have to restart so often (almost every time I disconnect my laptop from the docking station).
Feasibility analysis is in progress.
This resolved the issue for me:
Uninstall display link manager and install the display link driver, as explained in the post by KatarzynaKowalczyk at 08-28-2020, 09:38 AM here: https://www.displaylink.org/forum/showthread.php?t=67302
Same issue here. Has this issue been resolved? Fix needed quite urgently.

I can confirm this issue. As soon i close my laptop its not really operable.
I didnt found any way to roll back the installation.
Also if i check WebPages for solution it says me about kext, and with new Driver there are no kext. At least i didnt found any.
same problem: does not work in clamshell mode, tried with fix described below without success. Irritating. Some help please DisplayLink? ty.
The approach with installing the legacy version (5.2.5 DisplayLink USB Graphics Software for macOS) only partly works for me. The lid mode works, but you cannot disconnect from the docking station properly (i.e. pull off the cable and run). Once you do that, the mac gets freezed and you have to restart (no go!).
I am running 10.15.7 on a 2018 MacBook Pro.
Thank you so much zenofall. This was driving me crazy.
I followed zenofall's advice and installed the legacy version, and clamshell works great.
> "Go to legacy releases section just below the main download section and get 5.2.5 DisplayLink USB Graphics Software for macOS."
Just remove the the latest DisplayLink from your Applications folder. There's no dedicated uninstaller program. Then, restart (very important you restart!). Once you restart, then follow instruction for installing the legacy version (DisplayLink v5.2.5).
Instead of using the DisplayLink Manager Graphics Connectivity.
Go to legacy releases section just below the main download section and get 5.2.5 DisplayLink USB Graphics Software for macOS.
This works with the clamshell closed, I am on a 2019 MacBook Air 10.15.7
Same here +5!! I hope to see this fixed.
Same here +4
I use two different macbooks on two different docking stations and get the faulty behaviour.
Why is this so lang in Analysis and open since August? What can the community do to help, push this forward quicker? Obviously there is quite a need on that end, since 38 people already took the effort and commented on that.
Yep same here...
2 external DELL monitors, DEll DL6000 dock using DP ports for monitors. Catalina 10.15.7. MPB 2017.
Fine with laptop screen open, 3 screens..
Close laptop screen and 'Displays' still shows 3 screens.
And my monitors blink every 40secs or so..
Tried a mixture of all settings, updated dock firmware (really annoying to have to use Windows for this process!!!).
Very frustrating that this product does not support chamshell mode on MacOS... will be returning this product.

Any update on the fix for clamshell mode? It has been more than a month in Feasibility Analysis. If no update, then might have to return the docking station.

I have MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019), and dock is useless in clamshell mode. Every time I disconnect from dock Macbook needs restart.

I'm on the Release: 5.2.5 beta driver/manager with a 2016 macbook pro 13 running catalina.
everything working great except closing the lid.
@KS, you're saying you got the D6000 to work with your lid closed on your macbook by following those steps???
Alban - Clamshell mode is completely inoperable using MacBook Pro 2.3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 with Catalina 10.15.6. I am glad "feasibility analysis is in progress" but I hope this is fixed ASAP. This makes the docking station an expensive obsolete brick. In today's Zoom everything environment, I cannot keep working like this. Will keep an eye out for the driver fix. But, will have to start looking for a fully functional docking station soon.~ Tony
I'll chime in here as well. I had just gotten the Dell D6000 USB dock to use with a couple of 2016 MacBook Pros (both 13 and 15-inch), and the DisplayLink Manager was not working for me consistently. There was a brief moment when I was setting it up and it somehow worked (i.e. allowed me to use it in clamshell mode successfully), but that was short-lived and stopped working when I switched computers and switched back.
After reading through these comments, the workaround that worked for me was:
1) Uninstall DisplayLink Manager and unplug the dock (not sure if unplugging is necessary, but you might as well do it)
2) Install the DisplayLink USB Graphics Software (version 5.2.5 for me, but 5.2.4 or 5.2.1 would have likely also worked as suggested by other users). I followed these directions (https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004-macos-10-13-10-14-and-10-15-video-functionality) to allow the kernel extension.
3) Restart after installation, then plug in the dock.
Hope that ends up helping someone. I was getting pretty frustrated at having to have my laptop open when docked and finding this thread was a godsend.
PLEASE. This is ridiculous how this has still not been addressed.
I recently bought the new macbook pro 2020, and when I connect to the dell d6000 docking station and close the lid of the laptop, it only allows it to work for a few seconds and go to sleep. I have tried the tricks on setting energy saving(never...), and it won't work.
My old macbook pro(2013) and macbook air work perfectly with their lid closed and powered on with the same docking station.
Since I use my macbook to remote in my work desktop, I would like to keep my remote desktop on the bigger monitors but not on the laptop monitor.
Could you please update the driver so it will be easier for me?
agreed I've downloaded the DisplayLink Manager 1.1.0 and this is glitchy, it allows the external displays (U2417H) to work momentarily then immediately go to sleep mode. paired with a D6000 dock, and can only get 2 of the. 3 extenal displays working.
