Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews
The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.
Dear DisplayLink macOS users,
We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.
Driver 5.0.1: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1257
If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004
Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301
Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. An FAQ details how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724
Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.
We thank you for your feedback on DisplayLink products that helps us further improve our product offering.
Kind regards,
Alban

Wim, can you or someone from the team please acknowledge all these messages and at least let us know if there is a timeline in place. The lack of replies is what is getting people so riled here. Please let us know how long it will be until we can expect a solution, or if you're struggling to find one, can you please at least let us know. That way people can gauge whether they have to look at alternative ways of working.
We're just asking for a little transparency here.
Thank you for your time.

Can anyone recommend another solution since my MacBook Air on has one Thunderbolt port and obviously it looks like I won't be able to use my DVI to HDMI adapter anytime soon. Can someone point me in the right direction to get something that will allow me to use multiple Thunderbolt hookups to my laptop?

Check out the post from Vince that at least got me using 2 monitors without the resolution being super weird using SwitchResX https://support.displaylink.com/users/772922584-vince. Hopefully, DisplayLink or Apple issue a fix within the 10 day free trial period of SwitchResX.

Works for me but its just a mirror so the resolution is out of sorts.

Still no word? Nothing? Is it possible that DisplayLink is not aware of this thread? Shouldn't there be a daily update, at least telling us that they are testing, de-bugging, fixing undocumented features?

@SuhridKhan are you running macOS 10.13.3 or 10.13.4?

The updated driver 4.3Beta is working fine for me. Thanks for the update.

Is there any way to provide an ETA of like a couple months or weeks or something? I updated to 10.13.4 without knowing about this issue before hand and I don't have time machine setup so I have no choice but to deal with this unless I want to reimage my Mac which I do not want to do. I'm just curious if there is an estimated ETA for this fix?

I followed the instructions to install a user-supplied patch called 'purge-wrangler' (which I mentioned earlier here). But alas, it did NOT enable video via my 2011 macbook pro (with thunderbolt 1 and a DisplayLink USB 2.0 video adapter).
Apparently 10.13.4 is designed to allow external video ONLY over a thunderbolt 3 port. From now on, all video over TB1 and TB2 and USB is forever disabled. As such, it's likely there WILL NEVER BE a fix for this from anyone but Apple, and only then if we can motivate Cook and Company to give a damn.

This is not the first time I've experienced issues with DisplayLink after a MacOS upgrade. Issues after a MacOS update have become a regular occurrence with DisplayLink and frankly is very frustrating. Most manufacturers of software, hardware, etc should generally be part of the developer program so they can catch issues before MacOS updates occur, not after the fact. This only causes issues with customer satisfaction and productivity. Again, this isn't the first time. Very disappointed.

While waiting for a fix for this (either from Apple or DisplayLink) Is there any possible way to downgrade from 10.13.4 back to 10.13.3? I know this is probably not the right forum to ask this, but just wondering?

Here's the response I got from a support email.
Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to contact us.
As users of the technology ourselves, we truly understand that this loss of functionality on the OS upgrade can be disruptive and frustrating. Finding a solution to this issue remains the highest business priority in DisplayLink.
Our teams are investigating a potential workaround which could enable some level of extended desktop functionality to be restored in 10.13.4. In parallel, we are continuing to explore routes to a permanent and complete solution with Apple.
In the meantime, installing driver version 4.3 will enable cloning the native display instead of only having black screens.
Unfortunately, at this stage, we are unable to give any dates for either option, however, we will update you on this thread as soon as we have further information to share. We thank you for your patience.
Kind regards,
Aga

@Wim I can only agree with everyone else here. Communication is the key. Everyone can fuck up things but not letting people know and hide is no solution. Everyone here would like to know when we get a solution for this nasty issue. What is so hard to just give an update where you are currently?

Are we going to get anything from DisplayLink??
While I can see the blame game going on in the background. Is it Apple's fault? Is it DisplayLink's fault? You customers do deserve constant communications and a timeline. Silence is not good. I wish this happened last week. I was just down the street and would have been asking in your reception.
Your update from the 30th March is misleading. It now seems you have known about this issue since January 2018. -

I don't know if this hack works with displaylink hardware, but it looks promising:
