Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews
The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.
Dear DisplayLink macOS users,
We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.
Driver 5.0.1: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1257
If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004
Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301
Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. An FAQ details how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724
Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.
We thank you for your feedback on DisplayLink products that helps us further improve our product offering.
Kind regards,
Alban

I kind of doubt there will be a new version of OS brought out by apple to fix compability with display link. The beta version of your new driver is TERRIBLE in that it slows down my computer a LOT, and I had to just take off the displaylink device and uninstall this program and am actively looking for another brand of USB to HDMI adapter that will work. Display Link people should take their device OFF Amazon or put a disclaimer on it.

While I appreciate the new beta driver, there is no way I can see where I can select the screen to clone. Please advise as to what you meant by that. Displaylink is only cloning my main screen....

I have many Engineers on my 5 teams using DisplayLink multi-monitor devices on very expensive Macbook Pro laptops. Luckily I upgraded to test the release, found the issue, and let all of my teams know not to upgrade. I, unfortunately had to purchase additional hardware to get myself back to functional because I do not trust a rollback. This is an extremely disappointing move by Apple to release something that really ignores the end user.

Our teams are investigating several potential workarounds that could enable some level of extended desktop functionality to be restored in 10.13.4.

"Some level of functionality" --- So the goal of DisplayLink isn't to provide **ALL** level of functionality.
Got it. -

Please DisplayLink get this working and harass Apple until it's fixed. Really need this to work.

Display Link, instead of being using your employees to post excuses and attack customers use them to work in a patch... It will be much better.

I hate to add to the troll-fire, but if you're here complaining about your company losing money or how you have dozens and dozens of employees in your company that can't work, then you need to have a chat with your IT department for letting this slip by and not testing software before pushing upgrades. It's basic IT stuff every organization should be doing. DisplayLink put a warning about 10.13.4 as soon as they knew about it and that's about the best they can do for now.

Looks like I have to get rid of the DisplayLink as I'm not going to revert to a previous version of macOS. Heading to Office Depot or Amazon to find something that will work. A week with this type of disruption is unacceptable and clone mode is meaningless if you've been using the extend mode.

I couldn't live with one monitor so I backed up and then installed 10.13.1 and then upped it to 10.13.3. I'll keep it at 10.13.3 for a short while hoping a fix is made but I absolutely MUST have two desktop monitors for my job... no choice. If a fix isn't found then I'm buying a new computer that will support two monitors whether that be Apple at $3k or Windows at $1.8k. Hmm, I could save a lot of money by going back to Windows. Love the Apple hardware but if they are going to goof around and deny me two monitors then I'll let my purchase do the talking.

It's been a week. No acknowledgement, no status report, no updated driver. I think it's not going to happen.

A little research found this beauty.
That may be the only solution available now for this if Apple indeed did kill the Displaylink tech.

Guys, it's been a week since this debacle, and I need extended mode back. I don't really see what good cloned/mirrored mode (and what is the difference) do for most people, and it doesn't help me.
Please post the latest beta, warts and all, so we can at least have the option to try it!
I had a similar problem with Duet Display, to make my iPad Pro and extended display for my MacBook Pro 13". The difference is Duet Display responded to my support request with a beta driver...that works, within about two days of the problem. It's not perfect, but it works.
Again, you should have known this was coming, with problem reports months ahead of time.
You should have warned your users AHEAD of time.
Now that I already upgraded to 10.13.4 it would disrupt my business to go back. I cannot do that.
WE NEED AN UPDATE TODAY!
Please!

We cobbled together an internet connection using mostly the sinew from Jimmy the accountants body and were able to establish a connection to the Amazon. As we prayed to this Bezos god to find any product that might be capable of providing a USB to DVI connection without using a driver from "He who shall not be named". (i.e. DisplayLink)
We have located a promising product from Matrox that will do DisplayPort to dual DVI, which I could then run one to my DVI monitor, and the second to my thunderbolt connect 2nd iMac. Which would put me back to three monitors.
I have support requests to Matrox and Apple to inquire if this solution will work given macOS 10.13.4 and will report back to this thread once I know for sure, and again once it's set up.
May god save us all.
