Black screens on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4+ and Mojave 10.14 Early Previews
The driver (DisplayLink Installer 4.1.11) doesn't work anymore withe macOS High Sierra bêta 10.13.4 (17E139) and newer.
Dear DisplayLink macOS users,
We are pleased DisplayLink 5.0.1 driver for macOS enables multiple extended display support on the latest Apple macOS 10.14.2 with additional features (clamshell and clone). We continue our strong support for the Mac platform and are working on delivering future updates with further performance improvements.
Driver 5.0.1: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1257
If your DisplayLink enabled device does not seem to work on 10.14, this is most likely due to the OS blocking our kernel extension. Please ensure our kernel extension is enabled by the OS as described in our FAQ: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004
Should you still miss extended displays on latest macOS with latest DisplayLink driver, please create a support ticket so your particular case can be investigated. Here is how: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301
Due to changes in 10.13.4-10.13.6, it is not possible to enable DisplayLink extended displays, except one using Apple AirPlay. If your Mac is from 2011 running 10.13.4-10.13.6 and can’t update to macOS 10.14, you should remain with DisplayLink macOS driver v4.3.1 to enable one extended USB display using AirPlay, with additional displays cloned. An FAQ details how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724
Audio and Ethernet functionality, where supported, stays unaffected in all versions.
We thank you for your feedback on DisplayLink products that helps us further improve our product offering.
Kind regards,
Alban

Hello DisplayLink!
Would it be possible to give us some feedback on your progress on this issue? If this has happened in the past, how much time did it take you guys to get answers from Apple and fix the issue?
Cheers,

Anyone using beta users on 10.13.5? Any change there?

Unfortunately for me, my MacMini only supports a single Display Port video adaptor at a time. I use 3 LCDs (one in portrait mode) and this issue is a big hit to my productivity.

Sick of this happening. I have been caught out on this issue a few times over the years. I just swapped out my Targus + Displaylink setup for two Display Port adaptors which now works perfectly on Macbook Pro.

Hi,
Im working as a back-end java developer. I bought a macbook pro 15.
The first thing i did with my mac was the upgrade to 10.13.4.
After that i bought and a Targus Dock120.
Now after all my environment setup i cant use my external monitors which is very important to my daily work.
If i downgrade my mac version i will lose all my environment setup. such as (databases connections, IntelliJ, development settings etc.)
I hope the fix will be available as soon as possible. -

Beta 2 is still consuming insane levels of CPU - on the order of 30% continuously. Any hope for a beta 3 which at least gets CPU under control? At this point, I am resigned to a single screen but need the connection for ethernet otherwise I need to disassemble our hot desks.

What are our options, from this point (other devices, returns, wait)?

I also just purchased this docking station 2 weeks ago for work - and I am now looking at two blank screens. You need to provide details about the fix for this so we can make an educated decision about what to do next. I can still return this station for a refund and purchase one that works with Apple. There was plenty of time to have tested out the latest Apple release and this should not have come as a surprise.

We all got the same problem (blank Displaylink displays) and i just bought it for 1 day!
I hope someone lost their job over this. No excuse for this when Apple gives you plenty of time to test. -

Alban, your message and strategy are inadequate:
1. In your message, at least tell us the improvements in this new Beta. That's the BARE MINIMUM. I've tried the previous betas, and they're useless. See my posts below.
2. You should open source your driver. Someone in the community MAY be able to solve your problem.
3. Be ethical. Share ideas for workarounds, EVEN IF THEY WOULD LOSE business. Do you CARE about your customers?Arthur

The long waiting time, the poor quality of the beta versions, and the lack of a clear communication from DL mixed with the past history of Apple, make me believe that this is a no no issue. There is no way for DL to prevail over this decision from apple regarding USB port usability. Apple refers a security issue in the way DL implements the video capability of their devices.
My recommendation to DL is to be more open regarding this so, customers can take alternative actions for multiple displays in pre Thunderbolt 3 Apple computers.

Apple did an auto update on my system last night now I'm caught in this mess as well.
Serious productivity impact!
I am working around this by using the display port out of my MacBook Air to one screen and using the DisplayLink for the second monitor but the resolution is bad. In the interim until you and Apple fix this mess, can you update your driver to display HDMI for a single screen using USB out?
As many have mentioned, DisplayLink has had plenty of time to review and determine if a fix is feasible. Please share this info and your projected timeframe for the fix. This is impacting productivity. If its not going to be fixed in a short time then we need to consider alternatives. Time is money.
